Probably one of the most honored epics on recent television, HBO's mini-series Band of Brothers was produced by the powerhouse team of Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. It won the Golden Globe for Best Mini-series and is nominated for 19 Emmys. The 6-disc DVD set comes in an embossed metallic case. It has an extraordinary amount of information in addition to the 10-part true-life story of the men of Easy Company in the 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. To start with, it contains the documentary "We Stand Alone Together: The Men of Easy Company," which interviews the real men of Easy Company as they tell their stories, inner-cut with film footage and rare and archival photos. Also included is a making-of feature on the mini-series, actor Ron Livingston's video diary that shows behind-the-scenes footage from the actor's perspective, and a featurette of the screening on the beaches of Normandy. There is also an optional enhanced viewing "Field Guide," which extensively references people, places and events connected to Easy Company and their campaign through Europe and WWII as a whole. Additionally included are character bios, web-links to the Band of Brothers living memorial, as well as other pertinent sites, a still photo gallery, episodic previews and scene selection menus. The DVD is released in widescreen only with a 16:9 aspect ratio from High Definition digital masters, the audio is DTS English and 5.1 Surround as well as English, French and Spanish Dolby Surround. Spanish subtitles and English closed-captioning is also included. This is a must-own DVD set, especially for history buffs and collectors of World War II information.

The enormity of HBO's Emmy-winning miniseries Band of Brothers was overshadowed in the weeks after September 11, 2001, when it completed its miniseries run. A little distance and a stunningly packaged five-DVD set help cast in new light this take on Stephen E. Ambrose's bestseller about Easy Company's incredible journey through World War II. The filmmaking is often visceral, yet the extended format allows the ensemble cast to grow, and the sacrifices of these heroic soldiers become palpable. The vivid drama doesn't let up in the extras here, as tales of struggle and redemption abound in "We Stand Alone Together: The Men of Easy Company" -- the best of the DVD's multiple documentaries. It's all heartrending stuff.

I have not watched "Band of Brothers" in the boxed DVD set, but I have seen it in its entirety on the History Channel. I honestly believe that kids who are growing up today should see this movie to understand what their grandfathers and great-grandfathers suffered through in WWII. It really doesn't matter where they fought or what branch of the service they served in. These men put aside their concerns and fears when their nation called them and did a gruesome and dirty job because it had to be done. Tens of thousands lost their lives and many more lost limbs and their sanity because of what they experienced. With the war in Iraq and Afghanistan raging on today, I believe that it is necessary to show young people that there are things worth dying for. Popular culture and the media constantly tell kids that nothing is worth the sacrifice their lives. Wars are dirty and we should stay out of them. The WWII generation knew that they had to take action to stop the craziness of Hitler and Tojo to and did not expect somebody else to fight that war for them. They knew the risks and went anyway.

OMG! I couldn't tear myself away from this program. I know that Speilberg and Hanks received rave reviews for 'Saving Private Ryan' but this was sooo much better. I felt like I was a part of this, like I knew each character personally, and suffered their losses. Although this is a very violent and graphic depiction, it didn't detract from the story or the truth and history. What 'Tora, Tora, Tora' did for describing the entrance of the pacific theatre, Band of Brothers does tenfold for understanding the bravery of the men and women that lived through the European battles. I am amazed day in and day out that we have men and women willing to go into situations that are almost certain death. The courage of our military people should never be under estimated or taken for granted and this series represents the best of our nation.

This series got me through a year long deployment. I was on the convoy team in Iraq. My team and I would watch episodes when we spent the night at a base on a portable dvd player. It put in perspective everything we were going through. I watched the whole series 13 times in 12 months. It should be required viewing for all military. It gives me pride in my service and makes me strive to be the best soldier I can be! Awesome.

This selection should be required showing in every high school in this country. Very informative & well chronicled. One of the all time great stories of WWII. Graphic war scenes are not for small children. I suggest reading the book on which this is based for additional info

There are almost no words to describe this epic. You really get to know the men and feel like you are right there next to them during their horrible ordeal although really being there Im sure would be about 100 times worse. My hat off to the real men of the 101st and to the makers and actors of this movie.

This show is the best and most captivating display of movie making I have ever seen. Everything about the series is engaging. I was not bored for a minute the first time I saw it, nor have I been bored any of the subsequent times. I am 18 years old and usually not interested in history, but this show has completely captivated me. I got the DVD set for my graduation and have watched an episode or more almost every other day. The acting, directing, scripts...(you name it) are all wonderful. The series actually inspired me to read Stephen Ambrose's book upon which the series is based. I recommend that book to all. It was just as good as the series.

The best movie that I have ever seen. It sticks right to the facts. Unlike the movie 'Pearl Harbor', there is not any love story in the background. The best thing about this movie is that the names of the people in it are the actual people that fought in the war. It helps people understand what men had to face in Germany during WWII.

Highly recommended! I am thrilled we had the men of Easy Company on our side! They are inspiring to say the least. The guts it took to undertake everything they did is amazing! Thank-you to all the men and women who fought (and fight) in the armed forces!!!

I bought the VHS when the movie first came out for my husband and he loved it.Then in November 2009,I was trying to figure out what to get him for Christmas, when I saw Band of Brothers on DVD.I knew it would be his best Christmas present, besides it's the only one he got.He said he thought I was nuts getting him something he already had. Then he watched it.He couldn't believe how much better it was.

If you have seen ''A Bridge To Far'' and/or ''Saving Private Ryan'', then you have to watch ''Band Of Brothers''. It is the best mini-series and war type movie available. You feel as though you are part of the action and become one with the soldiers.

This was such a good series on HBO. I was so glad to see Steven Speilberg and Tom Hanks working together again. Band of Brothers is one of the only war movies that touched me so deeply. The acitng is great too. I love whoever the guy is who plays Bill Gaunere. Daiman Lewis (I think that's his name) is awesome, see him in ''The Forsyte Saga'' too.

Tom Brokow titled his best seller ''The Greatest Generation''. Band of Brothers depicts why this generation did indeed preserve our way of life. This is a tribute to the most effective weapon in the U.S. Arsenal - the American Infantry.

This film truly embodies the spirit of the 101st Airborne from WWII to the present day. The cast and crew did an exquisite job portraying the comradiery of the soldiers throughout the horrors of war. I could not help but be awed by the breadth and scope of this film and its real life heros. I would recommend it to everyone who has an interest in humanity.

I happen to catch this entire 10 part series on HBO when it was first released. At that time I was able to view it in 5.1 Dolby surround Sound with my digital cable. Now that I've seen it in DTS surround I am even more impressed. I have only owned this 10 hour series for about a week and have watched it twice through plus features... The hour and a half interview with the living survivors of the war is very well done and a must for all to experience.. the only problem I had overall with my copy is with the Ron Livingston Video Diary special feature... it is a twelve part feature and part 5 is a ''bad link'' there is nothing there. Tom Hanks and Steven Speilberg have done a tremendous job with Steven Ambrose's book and with documenting the story of 2/506th Easy Company's story... I was blown away and you will be too...

Band of Brothers is the best thing that I have ever seen on film. Steven spielberg and Tom Hanks take you into the lives of the men of Easy Company and how they lived through worst things imaginable. The way that the story of Easy Company was told was not a happy ending Disney movie and it was not a tragically sad everybody dies type of movie, it was told as if you were there and you felt like you were a part of Easy Company. The music by Michael Kamen made this movie. The way the music was written makes you feel like you actually experienced the war with these men when you listen to it. I think that every person should see this series in order to fully understand what war is like and what happens.

I have seen every WWII movie ever made and Band of Brothers is THE best. Messr. Hanks and Spielberg deserve grateful thanks for bringing this story to a new generation. God bless America and the veterans of WWII.
