Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
Barbie stars in her sixth direct-to-video production as the “beautiful and feisty” Princess Annika, who attracts the attention of the evil wizard Wenlock. After he proclaims himself to be Annika’s “future husband,” a suggestion she flatly rejects, he turns everyone else in the kingdom, save Annika, to stone. Given three days to change her mind, Annika instead looks for a way to break the powerful spell before it becomes permanent. Joining the strong-willed Annika in her quest is Pegasus, a winged horse with a surprising family connection, and an adorable polar bear cub named Shivers. Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus adds a new dimension to the bestselling Barbie video franchise: 15 minutes of 3-D sequences (glasses included) transport viewers to wondrous fairy-tale climes, including a magnificent skating rink, a celestial Cloud Kingdom, and a wicked giant’s lair (the program can also be viewed in a two-dimensional version). The Magic of Pegasus is a romantic adventure that will captivate Barbie’s core audience of young girls, who will cheer their heroine’s ingenuity against her adversaries, her graceful skating prowess, her costume changes, and, of course, her happy-ever-after romance with a handsome prince.

I love these early Barbie movies! One of the best! The graphics aren't as sophisticated as they have become, as this is an earlier movie, and Barbie is a doll, so she's not going to look exceptionally human, but like a doll. Still, the script is excellent and the story is exciting. One of my favorites!

This is another wonderful story from the world of Barbie, with all the wonderful sappy stuff we want our girls to learn to grow to be "proper" young ladies. My girls and my youngest boy love to pop in a Barbie movie on a rainy day or when we are at the cabin and it is too cold to play outside. It is a series of movies that delights everyone from age 4 to 80!! I wish they would do a version of Sleeping Beauty next.

This movie is terrible. I borrowed it to watch with my 4-year-old and even she was bored. The story is loosely thrown together to feature Barbie and her friends. Mattel, please give kids a little more credit--even at a young age, they at least need some sort of plotline.
