Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
Barbie's latest computer-animated adventure in empowerment takes her to Fairytopia, a shimmering, sparkling, colorful land located through the rainbow and ruled by the benevolent Enchantress. Barbie stars as pixie-sized Elina, "a useless fairy without wings." But she has a rainbow in her eyes, and that, she is reassured, makes her destined for great things. Elina doesn't believe in herself until "something bad" plagues her flower home in the Magic Meadow. Guardian Fairies are missing, and the other winged fairies have lost the ability to fly. It will be up to Elina to save Fairytopia from Laverna, the Enchantress's evil sister. Laverna plans to transfer all the power from each Guardian Fairy's enchanted necklace to herself. Guess who's wearing the last necklace? And will she fall under Laverna's outcast spell? Fairytopia looks like the beginning of another beautiful Barbie franchise with Barbie, as ever, a charming and courageous heroine. A puffball named Bibble provides the comic relief. The animation conjures up such wondrous set pieces as a flower parachute, a ride atop a butterfly, and a bevy of beautiful winged fairies. Fairytopia will put rainbows in enraptured young viewers' eyes.

    Great for little girls!

I have a 2 and 4 year old and they just love all the Barbie movies, even though we can rent them at the library for free I think I have finally bought all of them because they just love every single one of them, the Disney movies are definately on the back burner at our house. Barbie seems to be first off the shelf most days!!!

    Awful

How many fairy tale imaginatives can we throw into one movie without connecting them at all? This story is so loose that my kids started playing while watching it to take up some time. The animation is very stiff, too--I haven't seen hair stay put like that since the 80s.
