Overview

Prince Nalu has been kidnapped by a power-hungry fairy who's looking to cement her status as the most powerful figure in Mermadia, and it's up to Elina to rescue the prince and thwart the scheming sprite's plan before it's too late in an animated fantasy adventure follow up to the hit Barbie: Fairytopia. Laverna has a plan, and only Prince Nalu can help her realize her dreams of ruling over Mermadia with absolute authority. The only one in Mermadia who knows the whereabouts of a special berry with the power to make Laverna even more powerful than the Enchantress is the captive prince. Will Elina reach the devious Laverna in time to save the prince and ensure that the kindly Enchantress maintains her seat of power, or will the land of Mermadia fall prey to a power-hungry and selfish new leader?

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
Barbie dives into another computer-animated fantasy as Elina, the flightless fairy who earned her wings in Fairytopia. This sequel to that Spring 2005 direct-to-DVD hit finds Elina just getting the hang of her newfound appendages, when suddenly she's summoned to Mermaidia to rescue her friend Nalu. The Fungi have kidnapped the merman Prince in a plot by the evil Laverna to harness the magical power of the so-called immunity berry, which will make her invulnerable to all magic and thus able to take over Fairytopia. Finding Nalu won't be easy, so Elina tries to team up with the mermaid Nori. Nori, though, considers Elina a rival for Nalu's affections, but they come together after the Oracle reveals that the two must work together if they hope to save Nalu. (The Oracle also tells Elina that she will have to make a sacrifice -- her wings!) The computer animation is nowhere near Pixar quality, but Mermaidia conjures up an enchanting underwater kingdom that's all pinks, blues, and purples and populated by fantastic new characters. The Fungi are distinctively designed comic villains, while the return of scene-stealing Bibble the puffball will tickle Fairytopia fans. The no-star voice cast is refreshing, and Barbie is, as ever, a positive role model who, with or without wings, soars to dazzling new depths here.

You get to see Barbie as a Fairy and a Mermaid! I loved it! I've never seen Fairytopia, which Mermaidia is supposed to be a continuation of, and it's not necessary to do so, as the Fairytopia story is briefly explained in the beginning of Mermaidia, introducing you to the characters. Wonderful film, very exciting!

Elina (Barbie) explores Mermaidia for saving Nalu the mermaid, and the prince of Mermaidia because he's been captured by guess who? Laverna with the help of the fungus. Elina has to ask the help of Nori the beautiful mermaid, best "friend" of Nalu. But she doesn't accept to help her because she though that Nalu was in love with Elina because in the first movie of Fairytopia they seem to like each other so she was very gelous of her. But she decided to help her because she really wanted to see Nalu safe and she couldn't save him alone. The girls explore Mermaidia and Elina has to sacrifice her wings for a mermaid tale...
