Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
For Barbie, the third time's the charm. This enchanting computer-animated romantic fantasy recasts the American icon as Odette, "just a girl from the village," whose empowering adventures begin when she follows a unicorn into an enchanted forest. When she unwittingly uses a magic crystal to help free the entangled creature, she is stunned to learn from the Fairy Queen that she has been chosen to save the forest from the evil Rothbart. Barbie proclaims that she is "the wrong girl," but her kindness, laughter, and bravery embolden her to face enormous dangers and fulfill her destiny. The producers of this class act were really on their toes. The London Philharmonic performs the Tchaikovsky-inspired score; Peter Martins of the New York City Ballet choreographed the dancing sequences; and Kelsey Grammer is at his sinister, Sideshow Bob best as the voice of Rothbart, who transforms our heroine into a swan.

My family's favorite Barbie movie! This film has everything, including a great script, excellent use of the music, ballet sequences, humor, romance. This was a wonderful movie! The graphics are not as sophisticated as they are today, as this is one of Barbie's first movies, but Barbie is a doll and so looks doll-like, but once you get past that part, there is a terrific adventure ahead for you! Enjoy!

Barbie of Swan Lake is an absolute delight.

My three year old granddaughter and I watched this beautiful DVD this past Christmas. The story is reasonably easy for a 3 year old to follow with some adult help; e.g.why was Odette a swan sometimes and girl at other times? The music is a wonderful introduction to classical music. The story is both exciting and charming. My granddaughter immediately wanted to become a princess and a ballerina.I think both adults and children (boys and girls) will enjoy Barbie of Swan Lake.We did for sure!
