The men of the 12th Precinct are back for another season of big laughs and bad coffee! Fires, blackouts, smog, elections -- the third season (1976-77) gives a lighter look at New York City's seamier side during the dynamic '70s, the era before the melting pot underwent political correction. Hal Linden returns in the title role as Captain Barney Miller, the boss and effective straight man to the eccentric detective corps manned by Abe Vigoda (Fish), Max Gail (Wojo), Ron Glass (Harris), and Jack Soo (Yemana). Back again as recurring visitors to the squad room are Steve Landesberg (Dietrich), Ron Carey (Officer Levitt), and James Gregory (Inspector Luger). Nominated for four Emmys, including the year's best comedy series, the hilarious third season of Barney Miller runs 22 episodes and features such guest stars as Billy Barty, James Cromwell, Doris Roberts, Brett Somers, and Michael Tucci.

Barney Miller remains one of the most brilliantly written and produced television shows in the history of the medium. It is current today, nearly forty years after the initial season. I only wish there were comparable efforts on current network television offerings.

Barney Miller is one of the finest sitcoms of ALL time. It stands the test of time the way few shows do.
