Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
This second volume contains the remaining 28 first-season episodes from the brilliantly stylized Emmy-winning animated series. Several episodes rank as series benchmarks, and they benefit from commentaries by producers Bruce Timm, Eric Radomski and Paul Dini, and writer Kevin Altieri. These include "Robin's Reckoning," a two-parter in which the Boy Wonder at last faces his parents' murderer; "Heart of Steel," another two-parter featuring a Marilyn Monroe-esque robot; "Almost Got 'Im," a villain's-night-out treat in which Batman's nemeses each recount how they almost defeated the Dark Knight (and it's got Harley Quinn and Catwoman besides!); and "Harley and Ivy," in which Harley and Poison Ivy team up to become Gotham City's "New Queens of Crime." Another gem here is "The Man Who Killed Batman," in which a Mob underling has seemingly achieved what Gotham's super villains could not -- "off the Bat" -- and the Joker, for one, is not amused. The Animated Series has been justly celebrated for its stunning animation, compelling stories, and smart writing. It's the little touches, such as Two-Face spiking his drink with Half & Half in "Almost Got 'Im," that elevate this series from mere after-school time-filler.

The Dark Knight's as great as he's ever been!

I truly loved this DVD set, possibly more so than the first set. Some of my favorite episodes are: Birds of a Feather (Offers a rather sympathetic portrayal of the Penguin), The Laughing Fish (Some of the Joker's best lines in the series are in this episode), Robin's Reckoning, Part 1 (Good backstory for Robin, and I liked Batman's "grumpy" line towards the end of the episode), and The Man Who Killed Batman (Pretty funny episode, especially when the Joker gives the "Eulogy" at a funeral), However, all of the episodes on it are great. I highly recommend it to any who are fans of Batman.

I can rate this DVD set in three words

I can rate this DvD set in three words, Oh My God. This box set was truly a success in the batman series. It kept me on the edge of my seat throughout every episode. And usually a cartoon can never do that for you. I would recommend this box set to anyone who is a fan of batman. Check it out.
