Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Matthew Tobey
Co-written and produced by Steven Spielberg, it's hardly worth noting that this film was directed by Matthew Robbins. It looks and feels like a Spielberg movie. Blending together cute and curious aliens and geriatrics who've still got some life in them despite their years, one would assume that *batteries not included is an attempt to bridge the gap between E.T. and Cocoon. And while it surely falls short of the greatness of those classics, it isn't completely worth avoiding, especially for younger viewers and families. After all, the ho-hum story line about an evil land developer using illegal tactics to evict the residents of a run-down tenement is really just a backdrop for the admittedly dazzling effects and the charming performances of real-life husband and wife Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy. And it is those elements that make this an undoubtedly sweet and likeable experience.

Excellent, light and set in NYC; simply couldn't be more fun for adults! Jessica Tandy and her real-life husband, Hume Cronyn, dancing together to the jukebox in their resurrected Diner is a true delight!!

IMHO, any production with Hume Cronyn & Jessica Tandy is a winner, by definition! This movie is no exception. They took what could have been a cheesy little sci-fi flick & elevated it to pull-on-your-heartstrings level. All who wander are not lost, and all who have lost their marbles may still have several synapses still firing. This movie is a sweet paean to old-fashioned love that will see you through. It is pure escapism, which left me wondering if maybe, just maybe...?

I had seen this movie before, and remembered being able to enjoy it and not worry about the sex or languarge. A fun time by all.
