Overview

The space opera's third season picks up a short time after the Colonial fleet was forced to abandon the bulk of humanity on the harsh but habitable New Caprica as the Cylons descended upon the defenseless settlement. While the commanders of Galactica and Pegasus, Adm. William Adama (Edward James Olmos) and Cdr. Lee "Apollo" Adama (Jamie Bamber), clash over the admiral's plan to rescue those left behind, resistance guerrillas led by Col. Saul Tigh (Michael Hogan) use suicide bombers to strike back at the Cylon occupiers on New Caprica. The occupation produces heroes, traitors and hostages-the last best personified by Capt. Kara "Starbuck" Thrace (Katee Sackhoff), who becomes a Cylon's love interest. Captive Cylon Sharon (Grace Park) redeems herself when she agrees to help Adm. Adama rescue the citizens of New Caprica. While the rescue operation unfolds, defrocked president Gaius Baltar (James Callis) locates Sharon's Cylon-human baby and accepts an invitation from D'Anna (Lucy Lawless) to join the Cylons. The large-scale rescue proves successful, but the occupation leaves emotional scars on the survivors, particularly Starbuck and Tigh, who stir up dissent within the ranks. Adm. Adama endeavors to heal his crew with a boxing event that ends up being cathartic for Starbuck and Apollo. While trying to prove his worth to the Cylons, Baltar helps D'Anna probe the mythical "final five" humanoid Cylons-who have become lost to the rest of their race-an investigation that doesn't sit well with the Cylon Cavil (Dean Stockwell). A food shortage forces the Colonial fleet to traverse a dangerous passage to an algae planet, home to a mysterious temple that houses a veritable road map to Earth, which the Cylons also covet. The tragic loss of a troubled crewmate and a sensational trial onboard Galactica become game-changing milestones during the fleet's quest for Earth.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Christina Urban
The cliffhanger to Battlestar Galactica's Season 2 was epic: newly inducted president Gaius Baltar James Callis led a number of colonists down to New Caprica, a planet they hoped would become their new home. In the midst of settlement, the Cylons discovered the humans and enslaved the colony. As Season 3 opens, the New Caprica colonists -- dirty, sick, and barely surviving -- create an insurgent group to fight back. Leading the team are former Galactica crew members Colonel Saul Tigh Michael Hogan; Chief Galen Tyrol Aaron Douglas and his new wife, Petty Officer Cally Nicki Clyne; and Sam Anders Michael Trucco, former occupation fighter on Caprica and husband to Kara "Starbuck" Thrace Katee Sackhoff -- who is being held captive by the Cylon Leoben Callum Keith Rennie. Not everyone is in dire straits, however. Admiral Bill Adama Edward James Olmos and his son, Pegasus commander Lee "Apollo" Adama Jamie Bamber, jumped away in the Battlestars to protect the rest of the fleet, and they remain the colonists' last hope. As the 20 episodes of 2006-7's Season 3 progress, Baltar goes on an extended sabbatical from the presidency; the humans and Cylons simultaneously locate the next clue in the search for Earth; the forced extinction of the Cylon race is considered; one of the Cylon models is permanently destroyed; and we learn the identities of four of the final five Cylon models. Like previous seasons before it, Season 3 is rife with social commentary and political and religious allegory, all of which are touched upon in the enlightening episode commentaries by producers Ronald Moore and David Eick. And don't miss the set's Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance webisodes; they fill in the gaps between the close of Season 2 and the opening of Season 3.

    Battlestar Galactica - Season 3

I bought this set for my husband who really enjoys the series. It was very reasonably priced and shipping was free! A very good purchase.

A great show and a great season

Battlestar Galactica is the best show on cable, hands down without question. This season was riddled with Sci-fi Channel's interferences and it weakened the strength of the season. However, the episodes in this season that were good are some of the best episodes of Battlestar Galactica ever made. This season is worth the buy.
