Overview

A curse transforms a handsome and arrogant young man into everything he detests in this contemporary retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Wealthy Kyle Kingson Alex Pettyfer has everything a teenager could want in life, but he still gets off on humiliating the weaker and less attractive. When Kyle invites his misfit classmate Kendra Mary-Kate Olsen to an environmental rally at their school, she questions his motivations but reluctantly accepts. Later, Kyle blows Kendra off, prompting the spurned goth girl to cast a dark spell on the swaggering egotist. The spell causes Kyle to transform into an unsightly creature that strikes fear into the heart of everyone he meets, and the only way to reverse it is for him to find someone who can love him for who he is on the inside. Subsequently sent by his repulsed father to live in Brooklyn, Kyle forges a tenuous friendship with his kindly housekeeper Lisa Gay Hamilton and his blind tutor Neil Patrick Harris. When Kyle witnesses a drug addict in a desperate struggle with a menacing dealer, he intervenes, promising to protect the addict under the condition that his beautiful daughter, Lindy Vanessa Hudgens, comes to live with the unsightly recluse in his sprawling Brooklyn home. Over time, the two forge a relationship that grows much deeper than anything Kyle has ever experienced before.

    Okay....

I will start off by saying that the writer did a terrible job and I think that everyone can agree with that. Vanessa Hudgens was NOT meant to play this role and I only wish that they picked someone different. She should really stick to musicals. The writing didn't really help her acting (probably made it worse). Alex Pettyfer was awsome with his role and I couldn't imagine anyone else playing Kyle. Even with the horrific (awful, dreadful, horrendous, appaling...etc.) writing he rocked his role with the upmost grace.

    BEASTLY in a BAD WAY

Ok, I will start off by saying that I did give this movie a fair chance....and I just assumed Vanessa Hudgens could act...I was wrong. I will give her only a slight forgiveness for the poor writing of this movie, but only a slight. Alex Pettyfer--although somehow still eye candy even as "the beast"--didn't do well at the acting bit either...but since I've seen him act decently before I will chalk it up to the TERRIBLE writing. ("Having a Coke With You"...? REALLY??) The only actor that made me keep watching was Neil Patrick Harris...he desperately struggled to salvage a role that could've been roadkill had it been done by anyone else, and he did it with mind-boggling grace.

Throughout the story Kyle/Hunter (Pettyfer) followed Lindy (Hudgens) at a distance to find out more about her. Then when he makes her live with him he keeps presenting her with gifts at her door, including a month supply of her favorite candy and a greenhouse filled with her favorite flower. I don't know, but somehow that should've screamed "stalker" shouldn't it? I feel as if this could've been a good movie if the acting was better (hmm, maybe different actors...), the plot was deeper, and the writer was ANYONE else.

Aside from a few curse words, this movie should've been PG and given to the tweens that follow Miley and Bieber. I don't see anyone over the age of 14 loving this movie, and I'm being generous.
