This DVD in ABC Entertainment's series of releases from the archives of the German pop music series Beat -- Beat -- Beat pairs up one of the best known singers to emerge from the British Invasion era, Eric Burdon (who was shaping up a new lineup of the Animals), along with another act best known to collectors of obscure singles, Episode Six, an arty pop band featuring Ian Gillan and Roger Glover a couple years before they would form Deep Purple. All the material on this release has been transferred to disc in the original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and the image quality is impressive for a television broadcast from the mid-1960s; the picture is rich with strong black tones and impressive contrast, and the source materials look practically flawless. The audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo, retaining the original monophonic sound mix, and the fidelity is nearly as impressive as the picture, sounding unusually good for a live performance broadcast of the period. The performances are in English, with no multiple language options or subtitles. No bonus material is included on this DVD, and since it runs less than seventeen minutes some might be disappointed from a value-for-money standpoint, but the quality of what is here is very good indeed and this music is rare enough to tempt collectors.
