Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Mark Schwartz
Spanish guitar maestro Roni Benise has earned fans aplenty through this glitzy stage show, which has been broadcast on PBS. Nights of Fire! presents flamenco alongside Cuban and Brazilian music that's exuberantly performed by Benise's ensemble; on stage they're abetted by a fleet of sleek-bodied dancers. The Los Angeles-based phenomenon once made his living busking for change, but that was a long time ago. The Benise extravaganza shares with Celtic Woman and Cirque de Soleil an exotic theme rendered for mass entertainment, and with palpable excitement on the DVD and the companion album, Roni Benise succeeds as both showman and musician.

    Its all in the show!

Benise, himself, seems to lack the musical talent of others has been compared to. He has surrounded himself with beatifully costumed, talented dancers, however. It is more of a dance show than a concert, so if you go with that in mind.....you may not be disappointed. The other members of his show clearly possess more talent than Roni, particularly the female violinists and the drummers. It has been a wise choice to do so, otherwise, it would be a complete flop! I found the background vidio playing almost through the entire show, to be distracting to the music and show, as it did not "fit" with the stage, songs, or dances....in my opinion. It was a warm, nice touch when Benise entered thru the aisle door, chose a motherly type women to dance with and invited her on the stage....giving her great respect and appreciation....showed his "real person" side. On the "glad-I-went-once-but-would-not-go-again" list.
