Overview

First launched in 2002 by Susan Coulter Weeks, the Global Film Initiative constitutes a non-profit organization that funds the production and distribution of motion pictures from developing countries, and advances cross-cultural understanding through cinema. The GFI's 'Global Lens' is a related series of transnational motion pictures that screen annually at New York City's Museum of Modern Art, and appear regularly on home video courtesy of First Run Features. This box set offers, in a single package, four of the Global Lens titles from Africa. Included are the 2004 Angolan picture Hollow City, by director Maria Joao Ganga - the story of a young orphan boy and his attempts to survive the revolution in Angola; the 2004 Burkina Faso production The Night of Truth - the tale of a nameless African country struggling to make piece following a torturous civil war; the 2006 South African road comedy Bunny Chow: Know Thyself, directed by John Barker; and the earnest 2006 drama Another Man's Garden - a Mozambique-France-Portugal co-production about a young girl from Mozambique who sets out on a quest to become a doctor, and must counter many obstacles along the way.
