Davis plays a woman who emerges from emotional trauma to find love and adventure in Now, Voyager; The Letter features Davis in a sinister role as a woman on trial for a murder she may or may not have committed in self-defense; and Davis portrays a tempestuous Southern belle whose attraction to a man already spoken for (Henry Fonda) leads to her comeuppance in Jezebel. All three pictures earned Davis Academy Award nominations as Best Actress; she won the prize for her work in Jezebel.
