Overview

Barry Sonnenfeld directs this kissing cousin of his own 1995 hit Get Shorty, a comic caper adapted by Robert Ramsey and Matthew Stone from the novel by newspaper humorist Dave Barry. When two New Jersey hitmen Dennis Farina and Jack Kehler show up in Miami to whack crooked businessman Arthur Herk Stanley Tucci, they happen to creep into his backyard at the same time as Matt Ben Foster, a high school kid with his own assassination plans. Only, Matt plans to use nothing heavier than a squirt gun on Jenny Zooey Deschanel, Arthur's daughter, as part of a school-wide game of "killer." When the plans collide, mayhem ensues, and Matt's struggling ex-columnist dad Tim Allen, loosely modeled on Barry, Arthur's bored wife Rene Russo, and two confused police officers Janeane Garofalo and Patrick Warburton are also called to the scene. Shift to the next day and there's more craziness to follow. Two dimwitted petty criminals Tom Sizemore and Johnny Knoxville choose the exact moment Arthur is transacting a nuclear arms deal to hold up the dive bar where they're regulars, which is actually a front for the Russian mob. Soon the whole motley cast -- including an agreeable drifter Jason Lee, a buxom maid Sofia Vergara, and a pair of ruthless FBI agents Heavy D and Omar Epps -- are caught up in a hostage scenario in which the weapon accidentally gets brought aboard a hijacked plan. ~ Derek Armstrong, Rovi

    A Tim Allen "must see"

If you're looking for good laughs, this is there. The entire cast couldn't be better. This movie got next to nothing in advertising, and a bad release date, but is probably one of the best comedys released in recent memory.

    Big Laughs

This is a great movie: espionage, divorce, coupling, homeless, gangsters and the CIA, without contempt for its subject. What more could you hope for when Tim Allen and company headline a film. Very underrated by "critics" but popular with people who love movies. MORE LIKE THIS!

    Critics are Idiots

BIG TROUBLE had a problem facing it when it had to be pressed back due to September 11. Maybe that is why the critics gave it such a terrible backlash. Truly, though, this is a very funny movie. Based off the novel by Dave Barry, which is by far the funniest book that I have ever read, the movie stays close to the story. Sonnenfeld has a light sense of direction and the actors have fun doing what they do.

    Big Trouble= Big Movie

Big Trouble is the funniest movie of the year. The cast was just great. You'll enjoy Jason Lee (Chasing Amy, Vanilla Sky) and Dennis Farina (Snatch, Get Shorty). Farina is hilarious as he plays yet another bad guy gone terribly funny. Tim Allen is great, along with Patrick Warburton and Jackass superstar, Johnny Knoxville. If you loved him in Jackass you'll love him as a stupid criminal in this big hit motion picture.

    Well Done!

I have pre-ordered this DVD not even having seen it, because if it's anything close to the book it will be EXCELLENT!
