Overview

There are two kinds of Blade fans out there -- those who thought that Blade: Trinity was a gas and those who were downright depressed and frankly ticked off after seeing it. Whatever your viewpoint, this DVD will reinforce those feelings in a major way. Ryan Reynolds fans will have a laugh riot with the blooper reel, then later enjoy the Nightstalkers comic included in the package, providing hope that one day, New Line would create a film just for them.

If you're part of this audience, the good news is that this DVD was made just for you. It is a love fest for every bit of the film, with no hindsight into its performance critically or at the box office and certainly no hint of the problems that have resulted in a Wesley Snipes lawsuit against the studio and writer/director David Goyer personally. Of course, those who were mentally scarred from the film probably won't waste their time with the DVD, but if they did, they'd probably bust a blood vessel in their forehead from being so angry. Worthy of mention is that the clever "Goyer on Goyer" interview was previously available before the movie opened, so many of his comments have little to do with how the film played or the feelings at the studio at the time of the DVD. The version presented here is the R-rated theatrical cut, though it should be noted that the movie also comes in an unrated cut that adds up to 10 minutes of footage into the film and supports multiple audio commentaries that aren't included here. The famed alternate "Werewolf" ending is also supplied and it's just plain bad -- one of those ideas that might work well on paper, but fails miserably once life is injected into it. The well-done areas on the disc are the 16-part behind-the-scenes documentary and the presentation of the flick. Clocking in at 105 minutes, the making-of is a reminder of previous well-done Blade discs and lets the viewer straight into the heart of the production. The picture and sound are equipped with a fine anamorphic 2.35:1 widescreen transfer and action-packed Dolby Digital EX Surround Sound and DTS ES: 6.1 Stereo Surround tracks, both adding up to an incredible presentation of the film. Again, if you loved this third flick, then this disc should be top on your list -- everyone else might just want to watch the first or second movie instead.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
After writing the first two Blade movies -- which were quite successful -- David S. Goyer was rewarded with the director's chair for this sequel, which continues in the same, er, vein as the earlier series entries. Blade Wesley Snipes is still carrying on his war against vampires with the help of Abraham Whistler Kris Kristofferson. The bloodsucking baddies have something big planned, though, and they'll need to distract him. So Danica Talos Parker Posey lets the FBI know that Blade is responsible for some 1,182 murders -- and the feds immediately go after our boy, leaving the way clear for Dracula himself Dominic Purcell to implement the scheme that will permanently subjugate humanity to the vampires. Attempting to keep the vamp hunter out of the hands of law enforcement are Abe's daughter, Abigail Jessica Biel, and wisecracking hotshot Hannibal King Ryan Reynolds. Hey, what did you expect -- Tolstoy? This is a movie adapted from a Marvel comic book, after all. It's supercharged with ultra-violent action, and once the plot such as it is has been established, Goyer keeps it racing toward an explosive climax. Don't look for any gothic atmosphere in this film; there's nothing old-school about Blade: Trinity. We're talking hard-core, heavy-metal, splatter-punk stuff here. Anyone who liked the first two installments in the franchise is bound to find favor with this one, because it's got everything they had, and more of it, especially in the DVD-only, unrated edition.

    I Also Recommend:

A fun, exciting addition to Blade

If you're looking to be itellectually stimulated to the point of being able to perform a task you've never thought possible, okay, don't look to this film to do that for you. But if you want to be entertained, laugh, see some awesome action sequences, and get even further into the Blade story, this is a great watch. Fast-paced and cool, the characters (believable or not) will pull you in. Snipes was intimidating and perfect as our main-title hero again, with Jessica Biel doing a good job shotgun. Ryan Reynolds may have stole the show however, with his ridiculously crude lines and that glorious three minute scene where he's shirtless. Very, VERY nice. If you liked the first two Blade movies, watch this. It's a treat.

    Blade Trinity

It was an entertaining vampire movie that I did enjoy watching but I actually liked the original blade film as the best of the three. I thought that they tried to introduce too many new characters and did not develope each of them enough.

    Action Packed And Funny

This was a really good movie. There were many cool gadgets and awesome fighting scenes. The funny scenes were what really made the movie worth while though. It really lightened up the mood of it all. I recommend this movie.

    3rd Times A Charm....

The Blade series takes a sharp right turn way out into left field and I loved every minute of it!!! The plot is simple. Blade is framed for murder by a group of renegade vamps looking to get him out of the way so they can ressurect Dracula named Drake for some reason here. This doesnt work because theres a somewhat new group of hunters called The Nightstalkers who swoop in and help Blade much to his chagrin and mumbled protest. This group is lead by Reynolds and Biels a smartass and a hotty with a penchant for loud techno and ultra violence. These two indeed throw everything in the Blade universe asunder which is the point so everybody stop griping allready. These films are here to entertain and for 3 films now Blade has done just that. Not too dumb not too smart its just enough to keep the brain cells alive and the blood pumping. If the franchise ends here thats fine by me go out on a high note. If it continues I just hope its as fresh as Trinity but on a whole different level. How about that idea floating around where humans are enslaved by the vampires in a post apocolyptic future?!?! That woud be freakn sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!
