The latest in the unending swarm of risk taking anti-Hollywood underground horror filmmaking comes in the awesomely violent/sexy Blood Soaked.  Its rare a film has the guts that Blood Soaked has in terms of risky storytelling and bold aesthetic moves.  It has a very punk rock guerrilla style to it that really keeps the brutality harsh and real.  Let's break it down to the essentials. GORE: Well, it is called Blood Soaked... there's a decapitation, eye gouge, gunshots to the head, throat slit, skull stab, neck stab, zombies feasting... I think I got it all.  It lives up to its name and does something a bit different: its all practical.  At least, it looks like it is.  It feels real and it switches to black and white halfway through which truly makes the movie scarier and more realistic.  A bold move that matches the mood and really makes this film stand out. NUDITY/SEX: There's a college party with a lesbian fight, in which a girl loses her shirt and lesbian couple makes out.  There's a shirtless post-sex scene as well.  Pretty good, but I will always say there could always be more, unless you're Jess Franco. STORY: Insane.  The first half makes total normal sense and involves a girl going to college and experimenting.  When the sadist Nazi sisters show up all heck breaks loose and new things are thrown at you every five minutes.  Turns out there's a fourth reich coming and its army is made up of zombies created from a rejected Nazi serum.  I love it.  Don't think too hard on it or your head may explode, but this is mindless horror entertainment at its best.  Grab some friends and some beers and enjoy.  The script is awesome and I've never truly seen anything like it. TECH: Pretty cinematography during the soft moments and dark spooky shaky camera for the scary ones.  The camera and music really fit the films's constantly revolving tone and mood, yet keep the same themes throughout.  There's a haunting piano tune that rings through the film that becomes quite haunting and telling.  Its no Halloween theme, but then again what is? DVD: Good transfer, funny/informative commentaries especially by the actors who get drunk.  Includes an older short film that this is based on which is fun as it shows the origins of the final product.  A drunk outtake for the cast introduction to the film is my favorite.  Some unused trailers round it out.  Worth a look. OVERALL: Highly recommended for those looking for something different in this ever crowded horror DVD market.  There's a million and one out there and its rough to pave through them all.  This is one that really restored my faith in American independent filmmaking.  It gets in, grabs your heart, rips it to pieces and stomps it on the floor.  Very scary, sexy, fun, well made and really worth the watch.  Now sits on my shelf next to Evil Dead and Texas Chainsaw.
