Somewhere between Saved by the Bell and Lizzie McGuire, this beloved, generation-defining, coming-of-age series held sway with young teens. Ben Savage stars as Cory, an Everyteen struggling to navigate adolescence. With the show's sophomore season, Cory graduates to high school and a new array of peer pressures, such as confronting the school bully, whom he instantly antagonizes, and taking his friendship with Topanga (Danielle Fishel) to the next level. The opposite sex occupies Cory and best friend Shawn in several episodes that would be good discussion starters for parents. The subject of sex is handled with sensitivity and a refreshing minimum of snickering. In the Halloween episode, "Who's Afraid of Cory Wolf?," the show cleverly explores the onset of puberty. In "Pairing Off," Cory has second thoughts after asking out an attractive classmate whose name he doesn't even know. In "Fear Strikes Out," Cory is too nervous to kiss Topanga at a party. Fast-talking, quick-thinking Cory meets his match in his new teacher, the way-cool Mr. Turner (Anthony Tyler Quinn), whose unorthodox teaching methods are at odds with the more tradition-bound Mr. Feeny (William Daniels at his fussy best), newly installed as the high school principal. Boy Meets World was not exactly groundbreaking television, but as one of the comforting cornerstones of ABC's "TGIF" programming block, it was definitely in a class by itself.
