I enjoy the easy pace, yet informative way this video moves. There is enough variety from segment to segment to keep it interesting and captivating. Nothing warms my heart more than watching my daughter having fun and learning! I enjoy the way this video flows effortlessly through the lessons. My daughter loves it too. Each word is presented several times with visual cues to the meaning of the word. This video employs the “total immersion” method of foreign language education. The words are learned by context, in a simple straightforward presentation. There is no complicated explanation involving cross-references from language to language. There are, however, translations offered inconspicuously at the corner of the screen for easy reference by parents. The translations are not distracting from the visual material that is lively, fun, and entertaining. The images make use of age appropriate toys, children playing, delightful outdoor scenes. The vocabulary is all words common to youngsters. We learn numbers and colors, and manners. We learn girl, boy, eat, nose, mouth and more. All of this is accompanied by classical music that is engaging and pleasant. Additionally, my child’s temperament is more calm and focused after watching this video than after watching TV. The video is tranquil, non-violent, and involves no screaming or outrageous characters. In fact, there are no characters at all! There is just pleasant images presented in a clear concise reality based format. I know several Spanish-speaking people who highly recommend this video; I can’t imagine why anyone would find it objectionable.

I found the repetition in this video useful. The vocabulary is in simple form first, and then we see objects described with their color and the number of items, in complete sentences. Then we even get questions in Spanish! And somehow it is easy to understand from what we have already learned! The answers are given…but in Spanish, of course! Because the video can be repeated as often as you like, it is easy to become proficient at this section. It can be a fun game to play with your child.

I bought this DVD for my 18 month old child particularly because I am a native speaker of Spanish and I want my child to learn my language. This DVD is intended for children who are not learning Spanish as a native language, and that may be the reason why my child found it boring and walked away after two minutes the four times I tried to show him the DVD. The speaker has a close to native fluency and pronunciation in Spanish but she IS NOT a native speaker. The part of the DVD where a story is read has the text in Spanish written at the bottom of the pictures and the text is missing several accent marks and all question and exclamation marks at the beginning of questions an exclamations. I know the intended viewers of this DVD are 2 to 5 year olds who in most cases do not know how to read yet but that does not justify having errors like those. In other words, I would not recommend this video to anyone with children who are learning Spanish as a native language and I do not think it is worthwhile the buy for those with children who are learning any other language at home.
