Bravo Two Zero

Overview

The BBC1 military miniseries Bravo Two Zero was based on the actual experiences of Sergeant Andy McNab, who adapted the teleplay from his own novel. Set during the 1991 Gulf War, the series' two 60-minute episodes follow an SAS Patrol as they burrow deep into Iraqui-held territory. Their mission: to destroy the scud missiles in the arsenal of Saddam Hussein. Getting into enemy territory was the "easy" part; getting out was another matter entirely. Without giving away the ending, it should be noted that the SAS ...

Without giving away the ending, it should be noted that the SAS team in question was the most highly decorated British patrol since the days of the Boer War -- and that only five of the eight operatives lived to receive their decorations. Sean Bean starred as protagonist Andy McNab. Bravo Zero Two made its first television appearance in 1999.

    Almost a documentary

The photography is only passable, and then only because it was all shot in bright sunlight. The acting and dialogue are somewhat stilted, and there is a lot of narration. It's difficult to keep the characters straight. But overall it's an entertaining movie and gives you some idea of what these guys encountered. One thing that I missed was why they were so highly decorated when they seem to have failed their mission, at least so far as the movie portrays it. I'm reading the book to learn that aspect, and am enjoying the book. The movie does relate the action, even if it fails to clue you in to the whole story.

    Incredible

By far the most intense combat movie i've ever seen. This movie will suck you in and make u really feel for the british soldiers who endure so much more than they expectd. No over the top special effects to interfere with the reality the movie brings. The cast were perfect. In this age of box office obsessions, this movie brings something new and effective to the table.

    Great movie, great book

It's always good to see a great movie come from somewhere other than Hollywood. Based on real events, this movie is like Blackhawk Down for England. Sean Bean is perfect for the role of Andy McNab. Don't expect overdone multi-million dollar explosions, just a great story.

    Her Majesties Elite SAS.

An absolutely superb movie by the BBC. A sense of grit and realism that surpasses many of its big budget cousins. Highly Recommended. But be warned... I can only pluck up the courage to watch this movie every 6 ¿12 months¿. Quite disturbing at times.

    Real...very real

This is an excellent movie. It by-passes the usual hype & exaggeration of Hollywood-the larger than life fictional superhuman image of special forces/operations soldiers. These guys are believable. This movie is believable. These operators are portrayed as true professionals-not larger than life but rather true to life. This is a true story that is told in a manner that is both compelling and intriguing. I suspect the real Andy McNab must be quite satisfied with the realism of this movie. This is a must see & a must buy for every special forces/war buff.
