Overview

Respected high school chemistry teacher Walter White (Emmy Award-winner Bryan Cranston) plunges headlong into the dangerous world of drugs and crime in a desperate bid to support his family after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. In addition to featuring all seven episodes of Breaking Bad: Season One in high definition, this release also offers audio commentary on episodes "Breaking Bad" and "Crazy Handful of Nothin'" by the show's creator and stars Cranston and Vince Gilligan, "Making of Breaking Bad, "Inside Breaking Bad, screen tests, deleted scenes, Vince Gilligan's Photo Gallery and AMC Shootout - Interview with Cranston and Gilligan. One of several fascinating original series from cable's American Movie Channel, Breaking Bad was produced by Vince Gilligan of X-Files fame. Former Malcolm in the Middle regular Bryan Cranston starred as high school chemistry teacher Walter White, who at age 49 was told that he was suffering from terminal lung cancer--even though he'd never smoked a cigarette in his life. Unable to pay for his medical treatment or provide for the future financial security of his pregnant wife Skyler (Anna Gunn) and his son Walt Jr. (RJ Mitte), the latter a victim of cerebral palsy, Walter began moonlighting at a car wash. When this proved inadequate to make ends meet, Walter entered into a slighly unholy alliance with former student Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul). Using Walter's chemical knowhow, the two partners set up a crystal meth lab, with Walter supplying and Jesse dealing. Now the unfortunate Mr. White found himself straddling two worlds, one legitimate, one definitely not. Adding to Walter's crown of thorns was the ominpresence of his brother-in-law Hank (Dean Norris, a DEA agent who'd been trying to bust Jesse for several months--and who of course had to be kept completely in the dark as to Walter's new "sideline." Breaking Bad debuted on January 20, 2008.

Breaking Bad is the best show I have ever seen on TV. When you describe the premise of the show, it's hard to get people fired up about it, but trust me, you will be hooked after the first episode. PLEASE, give this show a shot. You will not be disappointed.

I am totally against meth and don't condone the use of making it, selling it, and/or using it. That being said though, baring in mind that this is work of fiction, this is a great show! The acting is well done in it and there are some great twists. I sat down to watch a couple of episodes of this and was hooked...I wound up watching the whole season in only 2 sittings, same with season 2. Looking forward to seeing season 3 and 4 eventually! This is a great show if you're into good drama, but make sure the kids have a sitter or are elsewhere if you decide to watch it.

I'm currently half-way into the second season of Breaking Bad and it has easily become one of my favorite shows, only second to The Wire. I don't want to spoil this review with much plot so I'll just say this: A high school chem teacher becomes stricken with cancer and decides to "Break Bad" and become a meth cooker. This show is incredible. The writing is excellent, with just as many funny parts as there are tense moments, the acting, especially by Bryan Cranston who gives one of the greatest performances by an actor in both TV and film, and finally, the visual style of the program (directing, editing, and cinematography) is probably the best in television history. The first season is only seven episodes so it will be consumed very fast. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

After feeling lost since our favorite series "Six Feet Under" was finished it's been like 'blah' for everything since. Until Breaking Bad came along!!! This is a wonderfully fun and engaging series with a great story and wonderful twists. One of those shows you can't wait to see what happens next!

I stumbled upon this series by chance - it had a few promos during the airing of a Mad Men season, and that's about it. I'm glad I decided to check out AMC's marathon airing because it's a winner. Without revealing any plot, I can say it's very dark but quite funny at times. Brian Cranton was great in Malcolm in Middle, and here he shows a delightfully evil side. It's not all fun. The series explores drug problems as well as the financial troubles of a middle-class family facing a terminal illness. It's a unique and memorable series and so far, it's one of my favorites.

I have heard some good buzz about this show for a few months now. I hadn't run across it on TV & never went looking for it. Then last week I got home late from work & was flipping around the dial, just unwinding, knowing I already needed to be in bed. I found an episode of Breaking Bad was beginning at 1am. "OK" I thought, "Let me check out a couple minutes of this show & then get in bed." It doesn't work that way with this show. I could not get up, I could not turn it off. It was gripping, it was entertaining & wildly real. I went out the next morning & bought this season 1 set. After two days & much less sleep than I'm accostumed to I had watched all 7 episodes. This is a unique drama. I've never seen anything quite like it. The plot twists can seem wild yet there is a grim reality to all of it. The characters are extremely real & believeable, a credit to the talented cast. At times uncomfortable, at times intense, at times heartbreakingly real this show knows how to hold the viewer, it knows how to create characters that you can really identify with even when the situations may seem far-fetched. Bryan Cranston has crafted a brilliant Walter White. Walt could be your high school teacher. You'll no doubt recognize him as someone that taught you at some point. Walt could be your neighbor & there's likely a Walter White right on your street. Walt is dealt a real bad hand, but it's what he does with this bum deal that will shock, delight & horrify you episode after episode. Cranston has always been a solid charater actor but Walter White is truly his masterpiece & has allowed him to finally be front & center. He is the star here. That being said you just won't find any weak performances here. This show has been cast so well it's amazing that it comes from AMC. This is HBO or feature film caliber drama. Almost every week will bring a new character into the show & each one holds their own. The acting truly shines. And don't worry about losing track as more characters are brought into the world of Walter White, because as more are added others are often brutally subtracted. If you are a drama fan make this investment. This is a keeper.

Outstanding 1st season! I loved this show! Brian Cranston was hands down "phenomenal" as Walter White and easily deserved his Emmy. Aaron Paul is awesome in his role as Jesse Pinkman, and all the other cast members seemed to be a perfect fit. I knew the show was good, because of all the rave reviews, but I was'nt expecting it to be this good! "Breaking Bad" Season 1 has a 5 star overall rating here on Amazon. Great writing, great timing and development of the characters. The storyline is dramatic, hilarious and keeps you watching. Just when you think the story is starting to slow down, they nail you with something big! I watch alot of TV seasons on DVD (The Shield, CSI, Rescue Me), because I work at night. I haven't seen a show in its 1st season that was this good, since "Dexter Sea. 1"! The only bad part about this show, was that the 1st season was only 7 episodes! Looking forward to the next season already! Highly, highly recommended!

I can only watch a few episodes at a time, but the series is a masterpeice of engaging characters, brilliant cinematography, meticulous plotting, and surprises all around. The moments the director creates make this series GOLD, but it is disturbing.
