Overview

Chucky's back and he's got a wife in the horror-comedy Bride of Chucky. The film is presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and looks excellent. The image features virtually no flaws (save for a small amount of edge enhancement) with colors and black levels appearing sharp and very pristine. Overall, Universal has done a very nice job on this print. The soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround in English (as well as Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround in French). The film features a surprisingly aggressive sound mix that often utilizes both the front and rear speakers. With an ample amount of fidelity and dynamic range, this mix should please fans in possession of a Surround sound theater system. Also included on this disc are English and Spanish subtitles. Bride of Chucky includes a few well-produced extra features, starting with two commentary tracks -- one by director Ronny Yu and a second audio commentary with stars Jennifer Tilly, Brad Dourif, and writer Don Mancini. Both of these commentary tracks are filled with tons of production information and anecdotes about the shoot, though the cast commentary is far more lively than the director's. A short featurette titled "Spotlight on Location" is included featuring interviews with the cast and crew. This is a very fluffy piece that only lasts a few minutes. Finally there is a fictional diary by one of the characters, some production notes, and some bonus trailers.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Jason Buchanan
In the realm of completely unnecessary though unexpectedly entertaining horror sequels, Bride of Chucky stands out as one of the more enjoyable attempts to reinvigorate a heretofore thankfully dead franchise. Stylishly lensed by director Ronny Yu and cinematographer Peter Pau (the formidable duo who brought us the similarly lavish Hong Kong fantasy adventure The Bride with White Hair (1993)), the further exploits of everyone's favorite homicidal benefits immensely from both a fun, upbeat pace and a talented cast who are obviously in on the joke. Sharp-eyed horror fans are in for a treat as film references to countless genre classics abound, while less demanding casual viewers are sure to be entertained by the sheer goofiness of the whole thing. As a social satire, Bride of Chucky plays its targets fast and loose, offering knowing nods to the likes of The Jerry Springer Show, and possessing an irreverently infective devil-may-care attitude towards the all to comfortable conventions that the horror genre has fallen victim to in recent years. In stark contrast to the original Child's Play, Bride of Chucky isn't scary, and doesn't even purport to be. What viewers are treated to instead is a series of highly creative (and highly improbable) death scenes, a lovingly crafted homage to such varied horror films as The Bride of Frankenstein (1935) and Hellraiser (1987), and a pointed skewering of media overkill. Viewers who approach Bride of Chucky as a straight horror flick in the vain of the previous efforts of the series are sure to be disappointed, but those who are able to place it in an entirely different universe and read it in a new context will surely find this re-imagining of the concept a fun and worthy effort.

    Marriage counselor maybe?

This installment of the Chucky series exemplifies how difficult marriage can be. Chucky has adjust to taking out the garbage, balancing the checkbook, and putting the seat down. This creates added stress no 14" doll should be subjected to. Overall, this movie is on par with the finale of Seinfeld.

    It rocked!!!!

I loved it, I saw it on the Sci-Fi channel when they were going behind the scenes The Seed of Chucky. I loved the part where Tiffany was putting her makeup and clothes on, and at the end of the scene, Chucky's goes 'Whoa.'. That was soooo awesome!!!
