Dead On Depiction of 1960s Confusion

Brides of Christ is an excellent depiction of the turmoil faced by religious orders in the Roman Catholic Church as the Vatican II reforms swept through the world. The script parallels this turmoil with the confusion faced by teenagers as well as their parents in trying to deal with the issues of sexuality and contraception filtered through Paul VI's Humanae Vitae. There are great performances--Brenda Fricker and Naomi Watts are dead on, and even Russell Crowe makes an appearance. Religious-political issues are also depicted with the Vietman War as a backdrop. A quiet gem!!
