Overview

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band make a triumphant return in Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band: Live in New York City. This bombastic two-disc concert is presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen which features striking colors and extremely detailed images. Nary a single ounce of edge enhancement, digital artifacting, or shimmer is found at all during this feature. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 in English as well as PCM Stereo in 2.0. The 5.1 soundtrack is an excellent reproduction of a concert-going experience: all surround speakers are utilized to their full capacity with the bass thumping loud and thick. No distortion or hiss is heard at all during the feature. All in all, this is an excellent audio mix for fans to rock & roll with. No subtitles are included on this disc. While the extra features on this disc are slim, those that are included are worthwhile. To start with, there is a small photo gallery of the band on- and off-stage. The best feature on this disc comes in the form of a featurette titled "New York City Serenade: Bob Costas & the E Street Band." This all-too-brief feature includes Bob Costas interviewing Bruce Springsteen about his thoughts on the band, the reunion, and what it's like to play the music after so many years. Fand of "the Boss" will definitely want to pick up this amazing concert DVD.

    A Colossal Live Masterpiece!

In what would become The Boss' finest hour, and a triumphant return of
The E Street Band, Bruce Springsteen electridued audiences and the music
world when he and his band teamed up for his monumental live performance
at New York's Madison Square Garden in the Summer of 2000. Released on
both DVD and a 2-CD Set in 2001, the spectaculat live recording captures
the high energy, the spectacle, the sweeping music, the passion, a great
audience, the passion and amour that Bruce Springsteen And The E Street
Band presented on this landmark live extraviganza (and the live set even
went on to be sellected Best Live Recording Of 2001 by an international
    critics poll).
With roghly 3 hours and 37 minutes of great music and picture perfect
band comeraderie, the concert event includes few of their greatest hits,
like My Hear Will Never Let You Down, Atlantic City, Youngstown, North
Avenue Freeze-Out, Born To Run, Don' Look Back, Light Of Day and Thunder
Road. What makes this equally as great is it also includes the thought-
provoking American Skin, a gut-wrenching atrack on institutional racism
and police brutality; and a rousing jamboree-filled live version of Land
Of Hopes And Dreams. Plus the DVD set even has its 15-minute featurette
titled New York City Serenade, where it is made up of 'behind the scenes
interviews. For fans and admirers of Bruce Springsteen, I would have to
truly recommend the wonderful electrifying DVD concert presentation with
the utmost respect and honour. Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band:
Live In New York City is a unique celebration of live spectacular music
and band comeraderie at it's best.

Simply put this DVD is one of the bet portrayals of Bruce Springsteen. A wild tenth avenue freeze out. AWESOME.

    Not Disappointing At All

It's not. Fans of Bruce know that it is a combination of the words, music, AND complete passion with which he sings that make the live performances magical. Plus not to mention the E Street Band is hard to top in terms of the best live bands out there. The capturing of the Reunion Tour on Live in NYC is not to be missed - this is a MUST HAVE dvd! Sure, I have my complaints...for instance the skipping around of songs instead of a full concert in its entirety is pretty dumb. It is also utterly horrible how Back in Your Arms and Blood Brothers aren't full versions (clips with which we are teased on the featurette). Those are my only gripes though...there is just too much good stuff here...check out Clarence Clemons' sax solos...or Nils Lofgren's searing guitar solos...the fun interaction between Bruce and Steve Van Zandt...Bruce and wife Patti's lovely duet...Lost in the Flood, Light of Day, Ramrod...see what I mean?! Bottom line -- check out this concert. It's great, great, great!

    painfully disappointing

After listening to his DVD, any doubts that Bruce is the worst vocalist in popular music is put to rest. I realize 'The Boss' has never been known for a velvet tone, but the sound which emanates from this DVD could make a deaf mute cringe. Some of the songs on this DVD are arranged and sung so badly, there unrecognizable. If you want Bruce on DVD, my suggestion, buy the video hits collection. This 'raw' Bruce performance is painful.
