Talk about your star-crossed lovers. These compelling episodes -- taken from the second season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer -- track the arc of the pivotal Buffy (Sarah Michelle Geller) and Angel (David Boreanaz) relationship from sexual intimates to tormented enemies to eternal soulmates. Animated by themes of love and rejection, vengeance and forgiveness, sacrifice and redemption, the videos exemplify why Buffy transcends the teenage pabulum genre. "Surprise/Innocence" deftly explores the rather appalling consequences of the slayer and her vampire beau's first sexual liaison. In "Passion/I Only Have Eyes For You," Angel, now returned to the dark side, mounts a heartbreakingly evil offensive against Buffy and pals. "Becoming, Parts 1 & 2," the season's climax, places Buffy in the awkward position of having to send her lover to hell. Providing the grace notes for the Buffy and Angel leitmotif, are romances pairing all of the supporting characters. It's quintessential Buffy, far more complex than its candy coating, brimming with unexpected twists and comfortably straddling horror, comedy, action and soap opera.
