Barnes & Noble - Daniel Craft
Season 1
Easily transcending the box office disappointment of its feature film source, TV's Buffy the Vampire Slayer will go down in history as one of the few truly successful big-to-small-screen adaptations. Writer-director Joss Whedon's teen-horror series' 12-episode first season began in 1997, favoring character development and tongue-in-cheek wit over the film's outright farce, and it quickly spawned a legion of devoted fans. Sarah Michelle Gellar's Buffy is emotionally honest and, when the line's there, really funny. She makes Sunnydale's slayer believably torn between her calling and all things teen: school, boys, family, and her friends. Led by her Watcher/school-librarian Giles (Anthony Stewart Head), Buffy's "Scooby Gang" includes nerdy Willow (Alyson Hannigan) and lovelorn Xander (Nicholas Brendon), with some comic friction supplied by ditzy cheerleader Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter). Add Buffy's rocky romance with brooding Angel (David Boreanaz), who unfortunately happens to be a vampire, and the show has all the trappings of a soap opera, but with a refreshing ironic bite. From the series' pilot episode, "Welcome to the Hellmouth," which explains away Sunnydale's improbable location on a direct door to Hell, to the season finale, "Prophecy Girl," featuring Buffy's big confrontation with The Master, there's an awful lot at stake in Season 1. Other ongoing concerns include Xander's crush on Buffy and the recurring threat of Spike -- the Billy Idol-meets-Nosferatu villain portrayed by James Marsters. Fans will enjoy revisiting Buffy's rookie year, while newcomers are prepared for the many changes still to come. Since one of the show's strengths is its attention to continuity, this set first set is an effective Genesis of Buffy lore.
Entertainment Weekly - Ken Tucker
Give series creator Joss Whedon credit: No other show balances so many elements as deftly, without a trace of corniness or melodrama.

Each Fan sees something different in this series Many see the show as a metaphor for High-School. Others take is seriously - loving the monsters & magic, the love & lust, Still others watch the characters and see something valuable - Being the Slayer snapped Buffy out of society's program, it freed her mind. Buffy's crew - those who share her secret - are also free from society's preconceptions and ignorance. Buffy and her crew have their eyes open, Whatever a fan sees, this series has powerful drama, formidable vilians. evolving character, and excellent battles. This series is great for almost all

I have been a fan of the Buffy series since it started. Actually, I was a Buffy fan when she was played by Kristi Swanson in the movie. I do have to admit that Sarah is better, though (not hard, since I've developed a slight case of star crush since I've seen her in the show). I preordered my copy of this set, so I got it the day after it came out. This collection takes you back to the beginning and is still just as good now as it was the first time. For anyone who likes the show, but didn't come in until later, this would be a great way to catch up on what you missed.

Oh how I love the smell of new DVDs in the morning - especially of Buffy and her Scooby Gang, uncut and unfettered by commercial interruption. Even though the DVDs are a tad short on DVD extras, who cares when we are finally getting the first season of Buffy. The great news is there is a small card tucked in each DVD pack announcing that the complete second season (6 DVDs) will be available for purchase in June 2002. You can bet I will be pre-ordering from B&N as soon as pre-ordering is sanctioned.

This Box set is pretty good. The best part is getting to watch Buffy comercial free at such a high quality (or in French if your trying to learn the language, which leads you to finding out things like Xanders name in France is Alex...). I would have like more extra goodies on the DVD's and considering FX has shown more little intervies on their Buffy Bites comercials I was a little disapointed. So if you want to own the shows and be able to watch them comercial free, this is the set for you. Don't expect too much more then that. I don't know why people give it 5 Stars because they could have done a much better job with this set. Just because we all like the Slayer dosn't mean we have to be blind on when a set is rushed out.

Finally, for all those who recorded every epsode from TV, they can watch them without commercials. I am a 25 year old SWM who loves Buffy. Although Willow steals the show with her cute sense of humour.

I've been a fan of Buffy's ever since the movie and a fan of Sarah's ever since she played Kendall on All My Chrildren. When I first got the DVD set, my husband laugh at me - but I told him 'don't make any comments until you sit down and watch it'. Well he did, now he watches it more then I do!! He even stays up late to watch it from Disc 1 to Disc 3. He is even excited about the second season coming out in June.

I have been watching BTVS since inception and a fan of SMG since her stint on AMC. This set is great if you missed it or like to watch with no commericals, but short on content. I was surprised that it is 3 DVD's as they are sort of short and I thought they could fit more on a DVD. Can't wait for Season 2 to arrive in June, but can you say ouch!! The price is double that of season one. Just noticed it is a 6 DVD set instead of a 3 DVD set. Guess it's $10 per DVD..

Buffy kicks butt!! It is an awesome! I think everybody should get the complete set of season one. All you buffy fans are going to love it!! But have ya'll seen the price of the season two collection! BIG OUCH!! But I think it is worth it and I am definitely going to buy it!!

This DVD set rocks!! I started to watch Buffy when I saw a commercial for the Season Finale of the Second Season, and after seeing it... I was hooked. That summer (after Season Two) the WB re-aired some episodes of Season One and Two. I was in love. Buffy is a great show not only for fans of sci-fi but for fans of just good televison. Buffy has it all: actions, karate, magic, special FX, intrigue, mystery, drama, romance.... I could go on and on.... Anyways, get this DVD fast, because afterwards you will definitely want to see Season Two!! Long live the Buffster!! *My only complaint is that this season is only 12 episodes because it started in Spring 1997, instead of September 1996. I want more Buffy for this kinda $$$!!*

I rated this 1st season 5 stars because I love Buffy the vampire slayer and it was nicely put together and I liked the way they had her speaking before they put on the show.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: The First Season, is one of the greatest seasons that Joss Whedon has ever written! I've been a Buffy fan for as long as the show has be on air and will continue to be one forever! If you like girls who kick butt in the end this is for you!

Buffy is great, being a huge fan right from the start people might think that's the only reason i am saying so however after watching all of season one i have to say everything about this DVD is so worth it. If i suddenly came into hundereds of dollars it would go on all the box sets and all the stuff that goes with it. Although the box sets i will own anyway....Good on you Buffy keep up the great work!!!

this is a great first season to buffy. everything here is introduce as the new slayer named buffy moves into sunnydale with her mom after the troubling times back in L.A. as she moves to sunnydale she is unaware that sunnydale is the location of many demons and vampires, including the master and is destined to be the vampire slayer, one girl chosen to stop the vampires and demons. my favorite episode would have to be prophecy girl which is the season finale and angel. also angel is introduced in this series as well. great dvds.

Words cannot express how good BtVS is. Joss Whedon is a genius, balancing action, drama and comedy perfectly. I never, ever in my life even considered watching one episode of Buffy before my friend forced me to watch the first episode. Now I have seen them all at least twice, and I am so hooked I can't believe it! It's not corny or melodramatic, it's perfection, to all degrees. Watch it!

My husband and I starting watching Buffy just during the last two seasons. We decided that we want to start watching the show from the beginning, so we purchased this DVD set. It¿s amazing the number of things that we learned from watching the first season. The writing has been good since the beginning and I just love some of the things that Xander and Willow say. Basically, I recommend this DVD set to fans or those who want to see how it all began.

The first season is the most playful out of all 7. Jokes a plenty but still VERY enjoyable. Every episode is a thrilling masterpiece when it comes to telivision genius Buffy stakes all of the competition.

I LOVED the first season of Buffy! It was so fun and so magical and full of great and hilarious joke-making. I dont have any favorite episodes in this season because i loved them all. The Master was a great villian on the show. I also liked the pack but I was sad to see what happened to Principal.Flutie. You should go out and buy this season! It was awesome!
