    This is a Serious Film

If you watch Car Wash expecting to get a lot of laughs, you are in for a disappointment. There are some comic moments here and there, but they are only accents to a story about race and class in America. This story, set in LA, features characters from all walks of life. There is the priveledged owner of the car wash who hopes to draw in customers by offering real live workers rather than machines, the college educated son of the owner who is trying to live out his romanitcized idea of joining the working class, the Rev. Rich who preaches the righteousness of the dollar, all interacting with a the cast of the car wash employees, who are all from the same underpriveledged walk of life but have their own distinct dreams and ideas about how to attain them. Locals such as a neighborhood kid with a skateboard, an off-duty hooker, and the local shoe-shine are audience to the ups and downs of a day in the life of the car wash.
