Notable for its plethora of exquisite acting performances, Carrington is sure to keep viewers enthralled. MGM Home Entertainment's disc looks equally exquisite, offering up the film in its proper letterboxed aspect ratio of 1.85:1 (enhanced). The picture is sharp and clear of artifacts, although it does appear a bit too soft during some scenes. Colors are balanced, but the blacks are not as dark as they should be in some parts. The disc has been given a fine English language stereo surround soundtrack and multiple subtitle options. The original theatrical trailer is also available, as are trailers for other MGM releases. A ten-minute behind-the-scenes featurette has also been included and it contains some rather interesting interviews with the cast and filmmakers. Fans of either Pryce and Thompson should definitely check it out.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Laura Abraham
The directorial debut of writer Christopher Hampton, Carrington attempts to explain the all-consuming question of love and its many forms. Previously known for such spectacular screenplays as Dangerous Liasons, Hampton chooses to divide the film into six chapters, each named after the superfluous men that drift into and out of Carrington's life; the technique is an engaging way to show the one unflinching source of love in Carrington's life, Strachey. Hampton's engaging camerawork and lush sets bring to life the artistic and emotional union of his two eccentric leads. He takes care to linger long enough on images that reveal his characters' emotions in full, and never cuts a scene too short. Carrington is a film about the importance and joy of love, in whatever form it may take.

    spell binding

I watched the movie on cable last night, had no idea what it was about, but once I started veiwing it the 2 main characters, played by Pryce and Thommson just pulled me in not knowing what they'd do next. One of those jewels you find that didn't hit the local theaters. I want to search out her art.BRAVO TO THE ENTIRE CAST PS my wife wondered why I came to bed late!

    Outstanding

I just had the opportunity to watch Carrington for the first time. It very quickly became one of my favorites. Emma Thompson was absolutely brilliant as Dora Carrington. As for Jonathan Pryce, we have come to expect nothing short of perfection from him, and once again he has not let us down. We have a good many talented actors out there, who have taken on roles and giventheir characters a personality and are praised for the wonderful job they did. Then, we have a small handful of actors, such as Jonathan, that take their character to higher level and give them life. His is not a talent but a gift. Thank you Jonathan Pryce, for sharing your gift.
