Celtic Thunder: Take Me Home

I am addicted!

I first saw them on PBS in their first show and was smitten by the voices and harmonies. They are all talented and more so as a group. This is one of my favorites because the songs are diverse and exquisitely rendered. They offer a wide range of music and emotions, and some of their songs will grab you and stay in your head as songs of the sixties and seventies did. I find myself humming the title song without even realizing its hold on me.

It is the next best thing to actually being at one of their concerts!!!!!

Completely Disagree with Previous Review - CD WELL WORTH THE BUY!

Fantastic CD with amazing voices and songs. The instruments were wonderful to listen to as well as heard in the polka. WORTH EVERY PENNY AND MORE WHEN HEARD LIVE IN CONCERT. THEY HAD THE CROWD GOING STRONG THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE CONCERT. The cd will always bring back the music of the event!

Many Duplicates

Since I had purchased their first DVD, I found many songs repeated here. While the added new songs are engaging, I was disappointed that this was not entirely new material.

Do not miss this DVD

I listen to and watch this DVD at home at least once a week. I have recommended it to many of my friends. The group is fantastic.

AFTER SEEING CLETIC THUNDER ON PBS I KNEW I JUST HAD TO HAVE THIS DVD. THEY ARE EXCELLANT SO ENJOYABLE TO WATCH AND ESPECIALLY TO LISTEN TO THANKS GUYS KEEP UP THE SPECIAL PROGRAMS

The Irish Strike Gold Again!

I've been a fan of Celtic Thunder ever since PBS aired their first ever concert a couple years back, and what I love about these guys is that they never cease to amaze their audience with their broad range of talent. Take Damian McGinty for example, who is the youngest member of the vocal group. Now in the first Celtic Thunder show he was immediately known as the heart throb, the cutey that all girls of all ages fell in love with. It didn't hurt that such a young face had such a powerful voice. However in the new show Celtic Thunder: Take Me Home, we see a more mature, less cutesy, more hottie become of Damian. His voice has considerably deepened, and his songs are slightly up to date with his older age. I personally enjoyed watching Damian perform his song "Breaking Up is Hard to Do," which has Damian doing moves on stage that have the girls in the audience going crazy. I was also impressed of course by Paul Byrom - the "jokester" of the group, however its no joke when he belts out his rendition of Josh Groban's "You Raise Me Up." I got utter chills from this guy's vocal talent, and why he hasn't been snatched up by Phantom of the Opera on Broadway I do not know. Now Ryan Kelly in this new show still shows his "dark side" when consistantly portraying the "Heartbreaker" throughout his songs. However I noticed in this show he does a lot more theaterical movements while performing his songs and that adds to the excitement and fun of watching him perform. Keith Harkin as always does very well singing folk-like songs such as "Castles in the Air," and I actually enjoyed his rendition of the 80s classic "I Want to Know What Love Is." However I do hope that in the next show Keith gets to perform other songs instead of the same ones over and over again. There needs to be a change! George Donaldson as the elder member of CT does excellent with his songs which depicted the life of the everyday working man, but he adds a jump of tempo with his song "500 Miles." In all I loved the group songs, especially "Steal Away" which the group has previously sung,but its updated with the more mature-voiced Damian taking a good portion of the song's solos. As always "Ireland's Call" and "Caledonia" are major crowd pleasers ( who DOESN'T love good looking men in kilts?). Phil Coulter the music director of CT adds a bit of fun to the show with the band playing two songs that will guarantee some foot tapping and the sudden urge to do the jig. I sincerely recommend this DVD and the CD to all music lovers from ages 5 to 105. This attractive group of guys with very distinct vocal abilities is a joy for everyone to see. There's music for everyone in this show, you don't have to be of Celtic descent to appreciate the talent and storys behind each and every song. Now maybe its just because I'm a sucker for Irish guys, but I think Celtic Thunder is now the biggest and best thing to come out of Ireland in a long time. Buy this wonderful show, and you will be a fan for life, I guarantee it!

Celtic Thunder: Take Me Home is an excellent follow-up to The Show.

I first saw Celtic Thunder in February, 2009 on PBS and became an instant fan. I bought that DVD the same week I watched them on PBS. It is amazing to see 5 completely different artists, in age and style, merge so perfectly as one. Take Me Home adds new songs which keeps it interesting and new. I reserved a copy for its release and bought it the day it was available; now I wait for the next one due in spring 2010. Damian changed the most of the five; his voice has significantly deepened, but he keeps it on key. Although I love all the guys, Keith is my favorite. He has done impressive renditions of two Don McClean songs; Castles in the Air was really well done. George was great with I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles); it was enjoyable seeing him doing a lively number. Paul is only the second tenor I have enjoyed listening to and his songs touch my heart; Remember Me and Knights in White Satin are probably my favorites. Ryan has great presence and a gleam in his eye which completes his role as the renegade; his version of I'll Be Watching You is spine-tingling. My hope is that I will be able to see them live some time soon. I would (and have) recommend this DVD to anyone.

wow!!

This was an enjoyable watch and very much like being at the live show. They caught all the good moments and the atmosphere was lovely. Its high time that George was able to show his lighter side and Paul and Ryan are setting sparks off between each other. Keith is his usual playful self but it waas kind of weird hearing Damian's new voice. For the unitiated this is a good opener and will encourage people to go and watch the show when it comes back.

WOW- Worth the Wait

Another great effort by Celtic Thunder and while there are new songs- we get to see the gUys grow into their roles and voices by seeing them perform some songs from the first DVD (Heartbreaker, Ireland's Call, Steal Away,Come By the Hills and That's s Woman). And those new songs are fabulous- with the most memorable performance being George Donaldson breaking loose with I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)- you find yourself grinning along with him. The 2 songs from the band are so playful and fun- your toes are tapping and hands clapping before you even realize it- Belfast Polka/Penn Railroad and Appalacian Round-Up are a welcome addition.Working Man,( and finally--) Yesterdays' Men,Castles in the Air, Happy Birthday Sweet 16, Breaking Up is Hard to Do,You Raise Me Up,- oh heck- all of the songs and performances are delivering on the promise that we first saw with their first DVD. Many thanks to Sharon Brown and Phil Coulter for their vision and to George, Ryan, Paul, Keith and Damian for bringing the vision to life and to us!

Just as good as the first!

I loved this concert. Everyone sounds great! Even Damian and his deep voice. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that the producers keep giving Damian the "teeny-bopper" songs. I do like the 2 new songs but he is not 14 anymore. I just think he needs more adult songs.

Celtic Thunder "Take Me Home" a Treat for Fans

While the newest DVD of the popular Celtic group of five male vocal soloists is not up to the quality of the introductory DVD filmed at the Helix, for true C.T. fans, this is still great fun. This is a glimpse of the most recent tour and filmed at the Rama Casino in Ontario, Canada.
There is some overlap of songs from the first DVD, but the reworkings are still interesting. It was fun seeing the amiable Scot, George Donaldson, come alive and enjoy himself interacting with the audience in "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" For original fans, it's great seeing young Damian McGinty getting used to his new low voice. (But what goes with the eyebrows, Damian?) Obviously this vocal range change necessitated some new arrangements, but they work well. Classically-trained tenor Paul Byrum has several chances to show his high notes and his harmonizing on the ensemble numbers shines. His kilt antics are a hoot and his interplay with the incredibly talented pianist Dave Cooke adds a friendly note. "The Dark Destroyer," Ryan Kelly, has his role down pat and his interplay with the lovely dancer, Zara Curtis, makes male viewers jealous. Keith Harkin shines in the lovely "Castles in the Air," but displays an alarming tendency to screw up the melody lines in his attempts to put his own stamp on songs. (This can be as irritating as vocalists who feel compelled to render "The Star Spangled Banner" unrecognizable, and doesn't improve the song.) Granted, "Lauren and I" is his own creation, but this doesn't excuse the note bending on his other songs. Still, Keith is obviously destined for a hugely successful singing career -- if the movies don't steal him for his good looks -- but he might profit from listening to Frank Sinatra who respected a good melody.
The Celtic Band may be small in number but they are huge in talent. Fortunately, the amazing guitarist Neil Byrne is back, along with his sidekick, Conor Mc Creanor, who plays bass in this tour. Percussionist Declan O'Donoghue adds some showman touches in addition to providing the beat. Fortunately, the lovely cellist Megan Sherwood is once again on board, this time adding her vocal talents.
Watching the multi-talented Barry Kerr play the bodhran left me kicking myself for not buying one when I was in Ireland. His flute and whistle work are great fun, as is his duel with the whistle-playing violinist. (Ruth O'Leary? Joyce O'Leary?) Looking like a Botticelli Venus -- but I hasten to add, in a lovely gown -- she manages to dance across the stage without missing a note. Joining with the O'Learys and Sherwood, violist Nicole Hudson adds her vocal talents with the other lasses in Damien's two Sedaka solos.
Alas, there are no interview extras on this DVD -- maybe next time Sharon Browne? But, there are many of the unique Phil Coulter songs and arrangements. (This man deserves a statue as an "Irish National Treasure." Watching him in the original DVD made me jealous that I'd never played in an orchestra he conducted. I'll just have to be content listening to his great songs on this DVD.) I even bought some of the "Take Me Home" CDs for family and friends who are now counting the weeks until the next Celtic Thunder tour. (Five new songs on that not on this DVD)Phil and Sharon have done an amazing job of staging an entertainment that crosses the musical tastes of the generations -- everything from Granny tapping h
