Overview

The world changes faster than many of us can comprehend, and being a teenager a mere decade ago can be a completely different experience from being a teen in contemporary times. Now those who have already lived though those difficult years can take a trip back in time to see what has changed -- and what things will likely never change -- in Zeitgeist's release of Kirby Dick's compelling documentary Chain Camera. Presented in 1.33:1 full frame, the image is about as good as one might expect for a film shot on digital video by high-schoolers whose skill and experience with a camera varies from student-to-student. Likewise, audio rendered in closed-captioned English Dolby Digital Stereo is passable, with dialogue ringing relatively clearly throughout. A chance for adults to see life through the unfiltered eyes of a teen is a rare thing indeed, and the filmmakers receive a chance to give their impressions about both this unique opportunity as well as the film itself in an audio commentary track featuring director Kirby Dick and producer Eddie Schmidt and students Cinnamon, Ethan, Amy, and Jesse. Four deleted scenes and four more deleted sequences take an even closer look at the lives of Kirby's fascinating subjects, and fans of the feature can also find out more about the filmmaker as the camera goes "Back to School with Kirby Dick" in a revealing interview. "Woman With a Movie Camera" finds producer Dody Dorn discussing her experiences on the film, with a theatrical trailer and an alternate title treatment reel rounding out the bonus materials.
