Overview

Television's most controversial comedy series arrives on DVD uncut and uncensored with Paramount Pictures' release of Chappelle's Show: Season One Uncensored. Presented in 1.33:1 full-frame, the image is clear and solid overall. Sporting solid, well-balanced colors and even skin tones, episodes as presented here will likely look even better than when originally broadcast. Audio is presented in English Dolby Digital Stereo and, while it may not be the most dynamic mix to hit the DVD scene, it's strong and clear of hiss or distortion. Though avid viewers are sure to be pleased with the presentation of the individual episodes, it's the extra features that make this disc a must-have. It would have been easy to release the disc with just a few outtakes and a look behind the scenes, but Chappelle and company have really gone the distance in adding some truly valuable extras. Commentary by Chappelle and series co-creator Neal Brennan is offered on five episodes, and while it may not be as funny as the show itself, it certainly gives humorous insight into the team's creative process and some fun behind-the-scenes anecdotes. The inclusion of almost 30 minutes of bloopers and deleted scenes (which also includes commentary) is sure to elicit laughs from even the most jaded, and the opportunity to see longtime comic Paul Mooney at his off-the-cuff best as he takes questions for the "Ask a Black Dude With Paul Mooney" segment shows one of comedy's greatest minds in action.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble
From its January 2003 debut -- Comedy Central's all-time biggest, with more than 2.5 million viewers -- Chappelle's Show has been a solid hit, building a sizable audience for this stand-up veteran. The time-tested format finds Chappelle standing before a live audience to introduce a series of sketches featuring Chappelle and other comics, with an emphasis on the politically incorrect. (As Chappelle boasts: "It's not HBO -- it's regular-ass TV!") All 12 episodes of the first season are included in this box set. Five of the episodes feature commentary tracks from Chappelle and his series co-creator/co-writer Neal Brennan, whose first successful pairing with the star was in co-authoring the 1998 cannabis-cult classic Half Baked.

there is not another comedy/variety sketch show on tv that can rival chappelle show...dave has his own special brand of humor...he makes us laugh with his socially and sometimes, politically incorrect themed sketches...can't wait for the second season to become available... the man is gifted and talented...

Remember In Living Color, the show that launched careers for the fabulous Wayans brothers, Jim Carey and Jennifer Lopez? Dave Chappelle advances the idea behind In Living Color to create one of the smartest shows you'll see. He explores race relations and ignorance in ways that you can't help but to laugh. And he leaves no stone unturned. If you're a friend of political correctness and are easily offended by what you don't know, this is not for you.
