Along with their helper Bosley Bill Murray, the Angels are sent into action when electronics genius Eric Knox Sam Rockwell is kidnapped, with the nefarious Roger Corwin Tim Curry as the prime suspect. But they soon learn even bigger danger is afoot -- the kidnappers have gotten their hands on Knox's latest invention, a system that can monitor voice communication from anywhere in the world, virtually ending the notion of private conversation. Charlie's Angels also stars Crispin Glover, Luke Wilson, Kelly Lynch, and Tom Green.

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
Adapted from one of the Swingin’ '70s’ most popular TV series, Charlie’s Angels is a funny, fast-paced romp brimming with feminine pulchritude and bursting with explosive action. Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu portray the sexy sleuths whose unseen employer voiced, as he was in the TV show, by John Forsythe assigns them to protect software guru Sam Rockwell from mysterious assailants. The high-stakes game takes an unexpected turn when the bodacious bodyguards discover that Charlie himself is the ultimate prize. Although Diaz, Barrymore, and Liu are easily capable of carrying the film on their shapely shoulders, a terrific supporting cast just adds to the fun. Bill Murray puts his signature stamp on the role of John Bosley David Doyle in the TV original, the Angels' fellow operative. Tim Curry, Crispin Glover, Kelly Lynch, Luke Wilson, Matt LeBlanc, and Barrymore’s real-life boyfriend, Tom Green, also make the most of their screen time. Music-video director McG a.k.a. Joseph McGinty Nichol makes a flashy feature-film debut, combining Hong Kong-style fight choreography and Matrix-like special effects with loose, improvisational humor and frequent pop culture references. As a result, his high-flying Angels makes heavenly entertainment. McG explains his filmmaking technique in a commentary for the DVD, which also includes music videos from Destiny’s Child and Apollo Four Forty, the theatrical trailer, and featurettes documenting the film’s production.
All Movie Guide - Jessica Frost
Charlie's Angels mixes nostalgic 1970s elements with action à la The Matrix and unrealistic spy plots à la James Bond, all set within the framework of the popular 1970s TV show of the same name. As three kick-butt private investigators, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, and Cameron Diaz prove to be as beautiful and unlikely as their TV counterparts. The script selectively mixes elements from numerous sources and time periods, with the main criteria being unabashed amusement. Though they're fighting crime in a new age -- the plot revolves around the stolen software of a Bill Gates-esque character -- the issues in the Angels' personal lives remain the same; the theme of "a good man is hard to find" weaves itself throughout the film and forms the basis for the women's vulnerability. But in their work life the trio is all confidence -- whether infiltrating a high-security computer vault, high-kicking a would-be assailant (producer Barrymore decided the Angels would not wield guns), or speeding after the bad guy in a race car, their confidence and skill is unshakable. Sure, they emerge from harried combat with the Thin Man (played with creepy brilliance by Crispin Glover) without even smearing their lipstick, but that's a part of the make-believe fun. There is an episodic, comic-book style to this action film -- no doubt helped along by the music video background of director McG -- and the result is as satisfying and equally agreeable as it is in Austin Powers. It also shares with Powers a spunky blending of modern-day themes with cheesy elements from the '70s. In Charlie's Angels this fusion is exciting, entertaining, and, judging by its box-office success, what people want.

    PUHLEASE!

This movie was stale, predictable, badly acted and just plain stupid. I don't think any of the actors had their heart in their performance, and scenes were not ''in sinc'' so there was not a smooth flow to the ''action'' if you can call it that. I am embarrassed to mention that I saw it in the first place!

    Action, Comedy, and Adventure! Wow!

This movie is exciting funny and has a lot of action. The girls are great actresses, and made the movie more exciting. Get this, since one of the actresses hates guns, all the fighting is karate and stuff like that. The story has a good plot, and I can't wait for the second one!

    Good but not great

This movie was a good movie not to say that it was my favorite, but it still was enjoyable. Could have had alot less cheesy action scenes.

    Good Action Power

Charles Angles was the best Action movie I ever saw. When I saw it that I can't believe one of the Ghostbuster Characters where in it that is why I like it. This movie is better than the Power Rangers movie becasue it is all vite. So I can't wait to the the Second Part of this movie.

    VERY Entertaining Flik!

The point of an action movie is to entertain, and Charlie's Angels did just that. I was skeptical at first, but after it was over I'd wondered where the time went! What a great time! I loved this movie, and I'm glad Barrymore insisted on more martial arts violence and less gun violence. SMART choice. I would let my children watch this with me.

    Unexpected Good Times

I didn't think I'd love this movie, but I did! It has just the right amounts of humor, action, smart remarks and a wonderful, eclectic soundtrack. Bill Murray is hilarious, so is Tom Green, and the three leading ladies were perfectly cast.

    goofiness...

Draws on cliches and mimics other action/comedy movies and well-known scenes and gimics to produce a hillarious film! You can tell the actors are enjoying themselves.

    Excellent fun, camp action movie

This movie is cool and it's slick. It's also stupid, mindless fun. And like The Matrix it uses the action style developed in Hong Kong (contrary to what numerous ignorant people seem to think the action in The Matrix is not original or unique, it is just extremely well executed). Like every action movie ever made it references other action movies and uses stunts that could be said to be borrowed, but let's just accept the fact that there is nothing original in the action genre and probably never will be. Action movies are never remotely realistic so why be concerned that in the real world people can't float in the air or pause during a kick? If you enjoy intelligent female action stars who are simultaneously sexy and feminine combined with superbly choreographed fight scenes (once again the Hong Kong guys show the Hollywood hacks how it's really done), perfect music choices expertly integrated with the screen action and humorous dialog, then you should enjoy this movie. It's lighthearted fun and never takes itself seriously.

''It's Kinda Crazy, but it Just Might Work.''

I thought this film was great- I walked in expecting a ''spectacle'' movie, and that's exactly what I got. No heavy thought required- this is a movie about women in great outfits kicking butt and taking names. A common mistake made in movies like this is wasting viewers time with the ''explanation of how all this crazy science stuff works.'' (See Face/Off. You'll know what I mean.) Charlie's Angels avoids any major pitfalls by leaving those moments out. Probably one of Bill Murray's best (recent) films; and each of the lead women, most notably Lucy Liu, offers charming moments. A KILLER soundtrack adds to the fun.

Great Entertainment, but of couse, not a good movie

This movie was entertaining for the guys. If someone did not see that already, you chose a wrong movie to see. This movie was absolutely wonderful in entertaining guys, and it was funny. In addition, it had a lot of action as it appeared to have. If you are a film critic, this was a killer movie, you just wanted to rip this movie apart since it had no artistic value at all, but if you were just looking just plain entertainment, this is it. This movie is not meant for Oscar's or Golden Globes or Academy's. It is just for entertainment. So let it be, grade on how much is it entertaining, not how artistic it is. Very enjoyable movie.

The ultimate campy insult to the tv series... but fun to watch!

I watched the tv series when I was young and it was a fun serious action/drama. However when first watching Charlie's Angles the movie I was a 10secs away from walking out of the theater after the first 10 campy minutes of the film. Especially since I'm a big import Hong Kong film collector as well it was so insulting to watch campy kung fu and pure cheesyness come from such a film... but in the end the film was what it was, just pure fun to watch, nothing serious. I think the Prodigy song ''Smack My B!tch Up'' is what saved the film for me.
