Picture and sound are both excellent. The disc also comes with two commentary tracks, one with Dominik and the other with Read. Both have their moments and should please fans of the film. Also included on the disc is a very bizarre video interview with Read at his farm before the film had actually started production. Like the film itself, this strange and sometimes hilariously uncomfortable segment is unforgettable. Just be sure not to watch it before you have actually seen the film. A few deleted scenes and the original theatrical trailer are also included.

Editorial Reviews

Village Voice - J. Hoberman
The portrait of this thuggish celebrity promises to be gleeful, and it is-in a particularly gore-drenched way.... This is a movie where bleeding can be a sound effect, but often it's obscured by the burble of Chopper's constant chatter.... A movie of prolonged interactions, Chopper is as visually strident as its protagonist is garrulous. A former director of commercials and music videos, Dominik periodically gooses the action with bits of subjective pixillation or wildly theatrical lighting, but his filmmaking is more impressive for its vivid claustrophobia. The colors are leached; the action is largely confined to interiors with the bilious illumination of a city morgue. With his metal teeth and deformed satyr-like ears, Chopper is a spectacular lowlife clown -- a mix of oafish savoir faire and unpredictable violence...

    A Splendid Celebrity...

That happens to be a killer and notorious criminal in the tradition of many Australian films. They tend to be a little bit more bloody, angry with that in your voice. The prison section in this movie was as real as it gets, more so than other countries, including the US. Afrer Mark "READ" Chopper gets out of prison, he doesn't change one bit and is the typical celebrity we find in all Western countries of criminals whether they be John Gotti or Ted Bundy. That part wasn't as compelling.

    Great rough/raw movie

If you like your movies a little raw/rough and you think you can pick up the Australian brogue then this title is perfect. Eric Bana is fantastic imho and the movie borderlines on a comedy in some sections. Nice off track title that I thoroughly enjoyed.
