Overview

Horror master John Carpenter's adaptation of Stephen King's Christine comes to DVD with two images. The widescreen transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1 and is preferable to the standard, full-frame, pan-and-scanned image. An English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround, while Spanish and Portuguese soundtracks are recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. Neither subtitles nor closed-captions are accessible. Supplemental materials include talent filmographies. This fine, but rather uninteresting package befits this fine but rather uninteresting film. Fans will not be disappointed, but this disc does nothing to win over the unconverted.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Robert Firsching
An agreeable (if not entirely frightening) adaptation of Stephen King's novel about an evil car, Christine has some nicely atmospheric sequences which somewhat compensate for its lack of horrific impact. The auto of the title, a cherry-red 1958 Plymouth Fury, takes on a personality of its own as a homicidally jealous female who is willing to kill to preserve the affections of its owner, a put-upon teenage nerd (Keith Gordon). The young cast is appealing enough, and director John Carpenter manages a few creepy scenes, but the story bogs down into yet another trite nerds & bullies drama whenever Christine is offscreen. It's still fun, but will probably appeal to casual viewers more than serious horror fans.

Based on a novel by Stephen King, ''Christene'' is about a car that is evil. It's definetly one of John Carpentars bests. A great movie in the thriller/horror genre.

Not a bad movie, but no way would it happen in real life. Plus, all the bad guys sounded like a bunch of cry babies when they talked.
