I was six years old when CBS premiered this updated version of the musical written for television. Rodgers and Hammerstein penned "Cinderella" in the Fifties, and Julie Andrews was cast in the lead role. I have been lucky enough to see a clip of her performing one of the songs on "The Ed Sullivan Show," and consider her unsuited for the role; even back then, her voice had a maturity that was unnatural for the character of a young girl.<BR/><BR/>But Lesley Ann Warren.... Let's say I fell in love that night, and have had a crush on Lesley Ann ever since, even after I've been married for eight years. (Grin) However, having seen this version any number of times now, I think I can give a more objective opinion.<BR/><BR/>Music: Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II supplied the score; need we say more? This show turned me on to R&S. In particular, "Ten Minutes Ago," "Impossible," and the instrumental waltz at the ball (where Warren and Stuart Damon have their first dance) are incredible.<BR/><BR/>Cast: Excellent all the way. More objectively than above, Lesley Ann Warren as the young innocent who wins true love was inspired; while her voice is a little undeveloped at this age, it lends a certain charm to the performance. Her dancing was excellent across the board; not surprising, since she was trained as a ballet dancer before taking this part.<BR/><BR/>Stuart Damon was also excellent as the Prince (the character was unnamed beyond this in the production). Far more handsome in 1965 (logically!), he was wonderful as the romantic young hero, returned from adventures, but without a wife to carry on the dynasty. An excellent singing voice, and he used it on some wonderful songs.<BR/><BR/>The others of the cast were, in short, generally great. Walter Pidgeon and Ginger Rogers were wonderfully witty with each other; Jo Van Fleet, Pat Carroll and Barbara Ruick as the stepmother and stepsisters were characters you love to hate; and Celeste Holm was an excellent, sympathetic fairy godmother.<BR/><BR/>Costumes: Cinderella in her ball gown was the main reason I fell in love with Lesley Ann! In that floaty gown, with her hair pulled up and a long Hepburn swan's neck, she was the picture of beauty to a six-year-old boy. Still is....<BR/><BR/>Production: This may let people down today if they rent or buy the DVD (Hallmark Entertainment). Logically enough, the state of the art in effects has advanced in 35 years, and the jaded viewer of today may not accept the simple camera cuts and video dissolves of 1965. Ride with the boat; you'll still enjoy if you give it a chance.<BR/><BR/>Highly recommended, both to the student/historian of television and to the simple viewer. My 5-year-old daughter enjoys this tape immensely, and she's a child of the modern effects world!

I was part of the first generation who saw this on CBS each year from 1965 to 1974, and had to wait until 1987 for the vhs....Then the Disney Channel showed it nonstop in the late 80's and early 90's, catching a different generation. Now, in another century, one really noticesthat the sets are just cardboard, and the video is on the fuzzy side.....I had also never seen the original black and white version of this with Julie Andrews, which I must admit has a much better script....but, this is the one that is part of my story, and I love it for different reasons

When I was a little girl I remember watching this movie on television, for years after VCR's were out, I searched for this movie because it was so clean and yes, Prince Charming was every little girls dream. When I saw that it was available on DVD, naturally I got it...watched it and all the wonderful childhood memories came back to me. I love this movie. I had forgotten how innocent things were back then...thank you for making this movie available for my generation.

Like a lot of people who wrote about this, I too grew up on it; even though I am only 21. This was the only show that I would sit through without moving or making noise as a child. It has a captivating auora about it and just makes you want to watch it again and again. My best friend found it and bought it for me for Christmas this last year and my mom and I would just sit and watch it in silence. When the song "Ten Minutes Ago" comes on we will play it over and over again. I recommend this to anyone who likes a good fairy tale and doesnt mind the lack of special effects that some movies over do nowadays.

I loved this movie. It goes down as an all time favorite. No matter how many versions they make, the music along with Leslie Anne Warren & Stuart Damon are the best ever.

I grew up with this version of Cinderella, seeing this version before any other. It's entirely enchanting and holds truer(i think) to the feeling of the original story than the one with Brandy and Whitney Houston and far far more than the disney. If you are looking for a version of Cinderella for anyone, this is the one to get.

In 1966, when I was four, my mother gave birth to my sister. Asked if I had any suggestions as to what this new baby's name should be, ''Cinderella'' was the one and only choice. The Rodger's and Hammerstein's musical version of Cinderella is terrific! While the sets may not be in the same catagory with ''South Pacific'' or ''The Sound of Music'', the songs definitely are! A terrific choice and Stuart Damon isn't bad, either!

This movie is a timeless classic. I watched faithfully every year from 1962-1970 But it seems that there is something missing from the Video/DVD that was there in the original. I wish that I could find a copy that retains all of the script. even so, I have enjoyed watching it over and over

I am 36 years old and I never saw this movie until this year.. I have to say that I thought it was FANTASTIC!! I have a 3 1/2 year old and she loved it !! The actors did a Great job especially Leslie ann warren who in my opinion is Cinderella... no hype or overdoing it, she did the part simply and classicly. Stuart Damon....(where do I start) He is SO HANDSOME in this movie my jaw dropped!!and he plays the perfect prince. His singing voice is out of this world and it made me cry every time I heard him sing!!( I am now a BIG fan of his)(GENERAL HOSPITAL all the way!!)My gosh where did they find him!!! the rest of the cast is great... pat carol cracked me up as prunella ( I thought the sisters were supposed to be Anastasia and druzella??) I TOTALLY recommend the classic movie to anyone.. I have the VHS version and It's GREAT!! (picture and sound)I also have ordered the cd. BUY IT, BUY IT, BUY IT !!:)))))))

When I was a child, we didn't have color television until the 1970's, but even in black and white, this production enabled me to travel beyond my ''own little corner'' through imagination. Lesley Ann Warren, so swan-like at 17, Stuart Damon, certainly looking the part of a Prince Charming, and the wonderful Fairy Godmother (adeptly played by Celeste Holm) - all of these characters wrapped up in the wonderful songs created by the incomparable Rodgers and Hammerstein helped you to look past the rather contrived scenery bits and the less-than-accurate costuming to the story. Dreams can come true - if you wish hard enough and are willing to work really hard. I absolutely love this version of the classic tale of Cinderella - and it's kid friendly - my eight-year-old sings along with the songs she's grown up hearing me sing to her. Well done - enjoy it!
