Overview

The newest presentation of the fabled French-Canadian Cirque du Soleil was unveiled June 14, 2003, in this Bravo network cable special. Priding themselves on never exploiting animals to entertain the public, the members of the Cirque troupe are all astonishingly talented and dauntlessly fearless athletes, gymnasts, and magicians. Among the special's highlights is a heart-stopping display of trapeze prowess 50 feet above the ground (without a net, of course). Varekai originally aired as the capper for Bravo's all-day marathon of the theatrical documentary Cirque du Soleil: Fire Within. The DVD release offers multiple-angle viewing options and interviews with the performers.

Until I saw Varekai live in Oregon earlier this year, I had never heard of Cirque du Soleil. Now, I wish I had known about it a long time ago. Throughout the show, I felt as if I had been pulled out of our world and brought to this place filled with enchantment and magic. The music is remarkable, the creativity of the artists' performances is stunning, and...it's absolutely amazing. Varekai is definitely something worth seeing either on screen or live on stage. Any way you see it, I was just blown away and I’m sure you will be too.

This show is so amazing and breath-taking that you would be so hooked. After seeing this show I've taped the other shows listed below. My sister and I want to see it live so badly, but we can't. I guess we have to be happy with our taped version (I hate commercials).

If you are a cirque fan, and even if you aren't, Varekai is a must-see! By far my favorite of Cirque du Soleil's shows. The costumes, music and acts are all amazing. The show is artistically very inspirational and I promise you will be amazed.
