Overview

An angel must decide if love is more important than eternal peace in this Americanized adaptation of Wim Wenders' modern classic Wings of Desire. Seth Nicholas Cage is an angel who hovers over the city of Los Angeles, listening to people's thoughts, observing their lives, and guiding them to the next world when they die. While Seth and his fellow angels try to offer comfort to people as they can, they are discouraged from direct contact with humans and are usually invisible to them. While at a hospital, Seth sees Maggie Meg Ryan, a dedicated heart surgeon who attempts to save the life of a patient Seth was to call upon. Maggie is distraught after the patient passes, and her agony touches something inside the reserved Seth; he finds himself falling in love with her, and he decides to make himself visible so he can communicate with her. As Maggie gets to know the strange visitor in black who has suddenly appeared in her life, she finds herself torn between her new feelings for Seth and her attachment to her fiancé Jordan Colm Feore, a fellow doctor. Seth, on the other hand, has a serious choice to make -- between immortality and giving it up in order to know both the pleasures and pains of being a human being. City of Angels also stars Dennis Franz as Messinger, a patient at the hospital who has some important advice for Seth. The film's soundtrack featured two Top Ten hits, "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls and "Uninvited" by Alanis Morissette.

A movie that you can watch over and over again and still be moved by it's content

At first I was a little "iffy" when beginning to watch it. But boy would my thoughts on this change. It's not a romantic comedy. It's a movie that can give you a lot to think about...not about love but on how much you can give. It's just an amazing movie. I love the role Cage plays, and together with Meg Ryan they make an dynamic duo in this movie. The way the "angels" are dressed...is just thought provocative. Every movement of each character just makes the movie better. The dialogue...is so moving. It's just an interesting and heart filled movie. Though the ending is un-expectable, but still amazingly good.
I think some people won't regret watching this film.

One of my favorites movies¿Meg Ryan and Nicholas cage make you believe that love can transcend time and that it is better to love if only for a moment than not love at all...

    My Favorite Movie....

This movie really touches the heart. It's sooo wonderfully written and Meg Ryan and Nicolas Cage are phenominal actors and the chemistry between them onscreen is truly amazing. Meg Ryan has done other films, but of all the roles I've seen her play, this is where she really was at her best. Nicolas Cage, even if the movie is horrible, his acting skills are top notch, so a movie with him in it is always worth the watch! This movie gives you an incredible feeling at the end, it's more like the feeling you get at the end of a great book, which is unusual but great for a movie to have. All and all, I recommend this movie for everyone!

    The wonder of love..........

Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan give optimal performances in this heart touching movie. The beauty is in how this movie intertwines us with emotions of love, wonder, heartache and soulful mystery. It's a classic!!

    ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!

This is definitely my favorite one yet. The need to savour true love for the first time has a high price. In this profound film of unselfishness, love is beyond powerful. It is the one force that exceeds all boundaries, even for Angels. The movie was wordlessly rewarding and worth it...I was moved. Great for those who enjoy out of the ordinary plots.

    City of Angels

I bought this movie on impulse- bad mistake. I thought the trailer and cast and well as the story line looked great; I also looked at some reviews saying that it was one of their favorite romance movies. After watching it, I honestly have no idea how someone could make a statement like that. Some of the lines were incredibly stupid and the ending was ridiculous. I do not recommend this movie and I will never buy one on impulse again after this- waste of my money.

Eyes Joined to the Heart Story

If you wish for a movie that touchs you, watch this one with an open heart. Both Mr. Cage and Ms. Ryan do a great job and the storyline is great.

    angels

I think this movie makes you think if there are really angels watching you and if they are wonder what we are doing. What are they saying about us. It also makes you think that angels and humans might be able to fall in love.
