Overview

Four classic Tarzan adventures from the annals of classic Hollywood appear in this collection - each one with a different actor portraying Edgar Rice Burroughs's iconic, tree-swinging jungle hero. First up is the four-hour, 12-episode serial The New Adventures of Tarzan from 1935, co-directed by Edward Kull and Wilbur F. McGaugh and starring Herman Brix as Tarzan. The saga begins with three explorers launching an expedition into the jungles of Guatemala, searching for a jeweled statue called 'The Green Goddess'. Aboard their ship, they meet Tarzan, who is en route to rescue an old friend, D'Arnot, from the dangers of the jungle. The men then team up for a series of incredible adventures. Next up is 1933's Tarzan the Fearless, starring Olympic swimmer Buster Crabbe in the title role and directed by Robert F. Hill; this time around, Tarzan falls for the beautiful Mary Brookes (Jacqueline Wells) but must rescue her from the worshippers of a pagan god called Zar. Third on the bill is Tarzan's Revenge from 1938, directed by D. Ross Lederman and starring Glenn Morris; it concerns a romance that develops between Tarzan and a beautiful engaged woman whom the hero must rescue from a crafty sheik. Finally, Charles F. Haas's 1958 Tarzan and the Trappers - originally made for television - stars Gordon Scott as the apeman; here, he must counter two trappers who have determined to steal wild animals from the jungles and relocate them to zoos.
