Overview

Clifford the Big Red Dog finally arrives on the big screen in the animated adventure Clifford's Really Big Movie, directed by Robert Ramirez. Clifford (voice of the late John Ritter) lives on Birdwell Island with his owner Emily Elizabeth Howard (voice of Grey DeLisle). Even though he loves the Howards, Clifford starts to think that his enormous size is too much of a problem for them. Feeling unwanted, he runs off and joins the circus with his friends Cleo (voice of Cree Summer) and T-Bone (voice of Kel Mitchell). They fall in with a gang of other runaway animals, including a Chihuahua and a ferret. The dogs compete in a big contest in order to win a lifetime supply of Tummy Yummies. Clifford's Really Big Movie encourages preschoolers to develop trust, independence, and confidence.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
Clifford, Norman Bridwell's colossal crimson canine, makes the leap to the big screen in this heartwarming animated feature. Clifford (voiced by the late John Ritter) and his friends Cleo and T-Bone seek "fame, fortune, and a lifetime supply of Tummy Yummies" when they sign on with Larry's Amazing Animals, a failing carnival act in need of "something big." Clifford, who believes he is a financial burden on Emily Elizabeth's family, fits the bill, and reluctantly decides to leave Birdwell Island. He is an instant sensation, which doesn't sit well with the act's star performer, a ferret named Shackelford (Wayne Brady). Clifford also catches the eye of the daughter of Tummy Yummies maven George Wolfsbottom (John Goodman), who dognaps Clifford to be her very own. The more detailed and dimensional animation is a notch above the TV series, and the songs, heavy on some dubious life lessons, are pleasant enough. Reaction to Clifford's Really Big Movie is likely to be split depending on which side of the preschool line you're on, as witness audience response to the pre-Clifford incarnation of Larry's Amazing Animals. "This is so lame," sniffs one bored audience member. "This is so amazing," enthuses an awestruck Clifford.

I thought this movie was very good for children. I bought this movie for my neice and she has watched it over and over. This movie appeals to the Clifford lover in all of us.
