Jonathan Lynn's Clue has gained something of a cult following since its original release in 1985. The disc of the film offers a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Mono. English subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include the theatrical trailer. The gimmick when the film was initially released was that it had three different endings. When the film began to air on television, the three endings were combined into one finale. The disc offers the viewer the choice to view any of the three conclusions. This is a fine release from Paramount, but they really could have done more with it, especially the soundtrack.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Brian J. Dillard
An A-list cast makes this B-quality premise work, but none of it would hold together if writer/director Jonathan Lynn and his co-writer John Landis hadn't taken the board game Clue as a mere jumping-off point for over-the-top satire. Clue the film takes broad aim at every thriller convention -- and every hypocrisy of mid-century America, from boozed-up senator's wives and illicit sexuality to Cold War profiteers and the secret life of J. Edgar Hoover. Tim Curry, Martin Mull, Lesley Ann Warren, and Madeline Kahn are only the most notable names in a cast whose comic credentials could float a project with far more prestige than this one. They all prove game, however, especially Warren as the slatternly Miss Scarlet and Kahn as the frequently apoplectic Mrs. White. With improbable plot twists, slapstick suspense, obnoxious puns, and haunted-house set pieces -- the filmmakers employ anything they can to get the audience laughing. Although such a kitchen-sink approach has been used in films from Airplane to Scary Movie, it's rarely been employed as effectively as this.

Let's just say that "Clue" had to be one of my best video store finds EVER! I bought it shortly after returning the one I had rented to the video store. Each character has great comical depth and will have you laughing and trying to figure it all out until the very end. Believe me, there is a reason why this one is one of Barnes and Noble's best sellers!

I remember the gimmick when this came out in the theaters. There were three different endings. You had to pick which one you were going to see. I saw the movie three times in 2 days just to see the different endings. I laughed every time , and I still laugh each time I watch it. Favorite part? "I am your singing telegram.BANG"

In my opinion, this is a classic comedy. A great cast with a very good story line for those who love humor.

My favorite comedy of all time! The jokes are quick and witty and every time I watch it I catch something new that I missed before. The cast is wonderful but the best of the lot are Madeline Kahn, Tim Curry, and Martin Mull. You must see this movie. An unnoticed classic!

This is the best movie ever. Anyone who hasn't seen this, get thee to a movie store. It's hillarious with a touch of anxiety mixed in. It's nothing like the board game, and everyone has a great story.

Storyline true to spirit of the game. Excellent performance by Tim Curry, as usual.

I chose the option to watch all three ending, and it was great fun. The acting is great, as well as the political over/undertones. I had the game of Clue growing up, and I can remember all the game pieces and characters which match up in the movie.

Based on the classic board game, this is about a mansion filled with a group of strangers. Murders begin to happen and they need to find out who is the killer.

This is one of the best movies. With it's perfectly timed lines, slapstick humor, and always in suspese story line, watch a the bodies and laughs pile before your eyes. And also with all three endings, this is sure to be a watch again!

Clue is the best movie I've seen so far. Tim Curry is a GREAT actor and I think he practically carries the entire movie. It's a great comedy, red herring, suspense movie that the whole family will love.

I Love it I Love it I LOVE IT! This movie is totally awesome. I really like how you can choose a random ending on the DVD, so even if you seen the movie 76 times, you still don't know the ending!!!!!!!!

I absolutely LOVE this movie! I've watched it about 100 times, and it still makes me crackup laughing every time. This is a great classic that everyone should see at least once. Very funny, and everytime I watch it I notice something new.

Clue is the most hillarious movie I have ever seen. My friend Kailey and I watched it twice in one day just because we couldn't get enough of it. The movie is based upon the favorite Parker Bros. board game. The movie is a who-dun-it where each of the characters are given a weapon at Mr. Body's mansion. The Butler is basicaly the host of both the movie and the ''get together.'' This is a must-see movie!

This movie based on the board game was a perfect blend of comedy and unpredictability, its physical comedic genius can only be compared to Airplane. With 3 ending you will enjoy greatly.

Clue is and has always been my favorite movie ever. I love Tim Curry, he is one of the most talented actors ever!!! This movie is so great because it is hilarious, and I feel sorry for the people that do not get it. It has a wonderful cast and is just great!!! Everyone should have a couple copies of it around the house.

When the board game of ''Clue'' comes to life, six guests gather at a mansion. Miss Scarlett, though her dress isn't, gives the impression that is given in the game, Colonel Mustard, a funny character, has loads to do throughout the film. Mrs. White, taken from being the maid, is turned into one of the guests. Mr. Green is the most hilarious character in the movie, Mrs. Peacock brings bright colors to the screen, while Professor Plum plays a small but good part. When the butler reveals to the guests that Mr. Boddy has been blackmailing them. He reacts by giving them each of them evidence of their crimes. As the guests open a candlestick, lead pipe, revolver, rope, knife, and wrench, Mr. Boddy turns out the lights, saying the only way to clear their self is to kill the butler. The lights go out. A gun shoot fires. The lights go on. But who's dead isn't who's thought to be dead. But will they figure out whodunnit before more die? Although the movie is short, it is available to watch with all three endings, coming to total to 96 minutes. Also, on the DVD edition, you can watch the movie where the disc will randomly pick any ending, as to see one of the three origional versions seen only in theaters. All in all, this movie is better than an A+.

I am a recently turned 15 year old theatre-obsessor and I tried out for my school's play at the beginning of the year. I was so surpized that I had never heard of it! I got cast as Yvette, the french maid and we have had much fun working on it ... The performance will have already came by the time you read this so what I suggest is you buy this movie and just imagine an eighth grade student trying to pull off that accent ...

This has got to be one of THE Funniest movies I have Ever seen!!!! It's the subtlety of the humor that makes it so great. Every time I see it, I pick up on a joke I had missed before. Pop this one in the player, and get ready to laugh Out Loud!!

Hear readers is the only movie ever to be based on a board game! Hey, but it works! In this slap stick film we have the characters of the famous board game ''Clue'' going to a New England estate to meet the man who has been blackmailing them! After meeting the his butler the blackmailing is killed, after he oddly gives them weapons. It soon becomes a case of who-did-it as more characters are being killed and the guest try to solve it all. As three comic endings and one great cast! Watch and laugh!
