But Cher, who lives with her tough yet warm-hearted lawyer dad Dan Hedaya and hunky, sensitive stepbrother Paul Rudd, also has an innate urge to help those less fortunate -- like the two introverted teachers she brings together "negotiating" herself improved grades in the process and new friend Tai Brittany Murphy, who starts out a geek and ends up a Cher prodigy. A modern teen update of the classic Jane Austen novel Emma, Clueless puts a novel spin on the time-honored "it's what's inside that counts" tale. Unlike most high-school fare, the film rarely relies on mean-spiritedness for its humor and never resorts to conventional sex-and-beer hijinks. The laughs are spot-on, punctuated by the script's outrageous glossary of teen lingo and its appropriately over-the-top depiction of high-school stereotypes. In a star-making role, Alicia Silverstone is perfect as the spoiled, nakedly manipulative Cher, an L.A. rich kid who finds her soul. As written and directed by Amy Heckerling -- who helmed the similarly bright Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) -- Clueless is less concerned with plot than with savvy one-liners and telling observations on Cher's bizarre world of teen materialism. The film also deserves credit for being one of the first of a spate of candy-colored, teen-oriented retellings of classic stories, including William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet (1996) and Cruel Intentions (1999).

    wow the movie is cool and so are the quotes i mean its a 90's movie that makes you wanna say as if whatever and Loser! ClueLess much better than Heathers and Valley Girl!

    Hilarious

    I absolutely love this movie. It is a great teen movie that has stuck with me through the years. It is cute and just hilarious. If you want to watch a movie that you don't have to think about and you just want to escape for a little while, then choose this.<BR/><BR/>It's great for young teen girls and young adults. It's just pure comedy.

    I loved this movie

    I watched this the first time in my mid 20s and loved it. Recently I showed it to my 11 year old daughter and she has watched it 3 times in 24 hrs. There are a few scences that are a little to old but overall it is ok for my 11 year old. Less stuff in this then what I was watching at the same age (One Day At A Time and Facts of Life)

    AS IF!

    Whatever! This movie is righteous! It is a black comedy in every sense of the word. Like Heathers and Valley Girl before it, it examines the inner workings of high school societies and the years that in many ways influence who we become. This is unarguabley Alicia Silverstone's movie. It is what she is and always will be remembered for. Her portrayal of Cher, the bubble-gum-color-drenched blonde who is spoiled rotten and has a heart of gold...24 karats! In another career defining role is Brittany Murphy in her best performance to date. She is virtually unrecognizable as the curvy red-head Ty (adopted and made-over by Cher). Fine performances, killer one-liners, and a decade-defining soundtrack are combined to make this a 90's classic for the ages!

    Boring... These girls are stupid is as stupid does!

    Wow this is even worse than having to watch Spongebob on tv or the movie for Spongebob. This sucks! I mean all it is about is dumb valley girls talking about fashion, boys, ect. Oh god I'm just glad I rented it. I wonder why someone wanted to create a story about valley girls in the first place. Well you can find a better thing to watch it's called Fruits Basket people! I did not find any of the jokes funny and on top of that there are better things that these girls could be doing with thier lives becides go to the mall flirt with boys and be valley girls! I give it zero stars! Two thumbs down! It sucked that much!

    Look I have a Clue about LIFE. I like shopping!

    I really enjoy this movie. I love Cher (Alicia Silverspoon) She is the most. She was a little out there at first. But then she relaized that shopping was not as important than she thought it was. This movie does have a message in it. You just have to look closely to it. She reliazed to help others is more important to her than Shopping. Don't get me wrong she still loves shopping, but she reliazes that her friends, family, and helping others was more important. She also found true love in the processes.

    Not a ditz with a credit card!

    This movie's main character should remind the viewer of another heroine, Emma. An excellent romp through the trials of match making, Cher discovers her feelings for someone she once denounced as too granola, too geeking, too opposite of her! Clueless is great for someone in the mood to laugh as well as someone in the mood to analyze. A brilliant piece.

    Flat-out Hilarious!

    It's a fabulous moive that will totally make you fall out of your chair! It's about this girl who cares about nothing but fashion and then realizes the world isn't about that!! Plus she falls in love! It's amust see movie!

    Clueless

    I absolutly loved this movie! It's a classic teen comedy that talks about teen life from the perspective of a popular rich girl who figures out that life isn't all about clothes and being popular. But I think that this movie is more enjoyable for girls, the only thing that guys would enjoy would be the ''hot chicks''. Still this movie can be an inspiration to help others, Cher did and it made her feel better about herself. I don't think that teachers would negotiate anyone's grade but it's funny to see Cher go from teacher to teacher trying to get them to change her grades because she claims ''personal issues''. Cher's quest for the perfect boyfriend is another storyline that'll make you laugh, she thinks she found the perfect guy but then she finds out... wait, I'll let you watch the movie to find that one out. There's also Dione (Cher's best friend) who seems to can't stop fighting with her boyfriend Murry. It's much like many high school relationships I see these days. All in all, Clueless is a great Teen Comedy that almost every teenage girl can relate to one way or another. It's one of those movies I can't get enough of.

    I Love this movie!!!!!!!!

    I think this is the best movie for teens!!!!!!! Because it focuses on teenage life and how to take everything nicely, even if it isn't always pretty. The part I thought was really cute was when Cher paired up two of her teachers together!!!!!!

    Clueless

    If you like to laugh this is a movie for you. Even though Clueless is geared more towards the teen audience, audiences of all ages will enjoy this very hilarious movie. While funny this movie dealt with teen issues such as popularity, sex, drugs and peer pressure, all in very funny situations. This movie has to best friends Cher, and Dion, who are totally clueless. When the shy, looserly, new girl Tye, comes to the school they take her in as their service project. When Tye starts to become more popular then Cher, everything starts to go down hill from there. Cher starts to go through funny personal changes. This movie is funny all the way through, and it is impossible to stop laughing. If you like to laugh you will surely enjoy this. This movie to me was the funniest comedy movie of all time and definitely a must see.

    GREAT FUN MOVIE

    Clueless is a great movie. Although I would doubt Cher is actually 15, the movie has spice and flair and can relate to everyday problems teens have. Besides, the characters are classic, ''solid'', and the lines are great. Overall, best movie.
