CollateralDirector: Michael Mann
A taxi driver is unexpectedly taken on the ride of his life in this stylish thriller from acclaimed director Michael Mann. Max (Jamie Foxx) is a cab driver who hopes to some day open his own limo company; one night behind the wheel begins promisingly when he picks up Annie (Jada Pinkett Smith), an attorney working with the federal government who is attractive, friendly, and gives him her business card after paying her fare. Max thinks his luck is getting even better when his next fare, Vincent (Tom Cruise), offers him several hundred dollars in cash if he'll be willing to drop him off, wait, and pick him up at five different spots over the course of the evening. Max agrees, but he soon realizes Vincent isn't just another guy with errands to run -- Vincent is an assassin who has been paid to murder five people who could put the leaders of a powerful drug trafficking ring behind bars in an upcoming trial. As circumstances force Max to do Vincent's bidding, the cabbie has to find a way to prevent Vincent from killing again and save his own skin, a task that becomes especially crucial when he discovers Annie is one of the names on Vincent's hit list. Collateral also stars Mark Ruffalo, Peter Berg, and Bruce McGill as police detectives hot on Vincent's trail.

Looks like I'm in the minority here. Collateral was a good film, just not the great movie everyone seems to be excited about. Actually, for me it was a general snoozefest.
Great Movie TOM CRUISE PLAYS a Perfect Sociopath. A few minutes here and there drag but otherwise excellent movie
I'm not a Tom Cruise fan and thought he tolerable in Legend. Anyway I saw a behind the scenes look on Collateral on tv (I think the DVD just came out), so I rented it. After watching I have to say that it was surprisengly good and Tom wasn't half bad even with the white hair, same with Jamie Foxx. I didn't even recognize Mark Ruffalo who looked really different and cuter. Moving on...this is the story of a cab driver who drives a hitman around to his victims and one of them is a woman he likes. Slowly the driver and the killer like bond and etc. Definitely rent it if you're not sure whether or not you not to buy it just yet.
Tom Cruise is the guy everybody loves to hate, and he's given many people ample reasons to over the years. But after watching his performance in Collateral, I will tell you this Tom Cruise can act, and he can act very well. Cruise plays Vincent, a cold-blooded contract killer who is simply the best at what he does. His job in L.A is simple, take down five witnesses in a drug case for a Narco-terrorist cartel. At least it would have been simple if his first victim didnt fall onto the roof of his cabbie's car. Jamie foxx is that cabbie, and he realizes that his life will never be the same. I liked foxx immensly in this role, it was a nice change of pace from his portrayals of brash, arrogant men. As Max, Foxx is humble and thoughtful, and a little undermotivated. He becomes Vincent's escorteee, and as the death toll mounts, things start to unravel. Haunting and Powerful, with the surreal nightlife Of L.A. as it's backdrop, Collateral is a pure adrenaline rush.
Michael Mann's new movie Collateral is nothing short of a masterpiece. The characters were throughly played out. The Picture looks crisp clean and the action and plot twists are placed gracefully. Tom cruise's character is by far the best and a really cold sadistic killer. Max is a humble yet smart character who doesn't show it till the end. ITs truly worth buyin!!
This was easily the best picture of year. It was enthralling. You didn't know what was going to happen. This is in my top ten along with Cruise's last flick 'The Last Samurai'. Cruise and Foxx should win Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor.
This is an excellent film that is worth owning. Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx were both outstanding. It was both great and strange to see Tom Cruise playing a bad guy. He looks great, too. Every minute is good. I swear Cruise gets better as he gets older.
Michael Mann's film "Collateral" was a great film. It was not only action-packed, but it was very interesting and engaging. I was on the edge of my seat when I saw it in the theater. It was quite something to see Tom Cruise in a performance as a "bad" guy, which exactly what his character of the sadistic hitman named Vincent was! Jamie Foxx, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Mark Ruffalo turned in good performances too! When this comes out on December 14th on DVD and VHS, I do intend to buy this film on VHS to add to my video collection! Next to the 1995 hit film "Heat", Mann has directed another winner! Kudos to both Cruise and Mann for this watchable, engaging crime drama!!!
Short... sweet and to the point. One of the best of 2004... period. Tom Cruise puts forth an outstanding performance... anyone who says other wise was a Cruise hater going into this. Jamie Foxx... WOW... blew my socks off! Most under rated movie of 2004 no doubt... what a thrill ride... rent it... buy it... whatever... just watch it and enjoy!!!
Well, when I first heard about this movie it seemed like your average action flim, but when I started watching it I really got into it. The plot is about this taxi driver, Max, who seems to be going no where in his career but manages to be content with his life. Then, a man by the name of Vincent enters his cab and thats when it all starts to unfold. I can't say anything else but, watch it.
The plot was very outstanding, but the actor's point of view just wasn't right to me. I'm sorry, Tom. Your acting wasn't very good in this movie.
This movie rules! Jamie foxx got robbed for not winning best supporting actor. This is one of the best pictures of the year!
Wasn't really sure about renting this originally. Too many action movies out there with two male actors are becoming rather predictable. This movie had me hook, line, and sinker from beginning to end. Cruise plays one of the most cold, calculated, and unsympathetic contract killers ever committed to film. Foxx does a great job as a low key cabbie who gets caught up in the whole mess. And the photography and direction is almost a character in itself. Thoroughly enjoyable!!
I loved it! When i found out it was going to be on TV, i was like, oh, i have to Watch it! I love Tom Cruise! HES HOT!
For a Tom Cruise film vehicle, "Collateral" is far from his best. There are some excellent intuitive character insights and this carries the film. However, the "tradecraft" is astoundingly pitiful for someone who is represented as perhaps among the top in his field as a professional assassin. It is beyond sloppy, maybe even sophomoric. He never ever "dry cleans" himself, he engages every passerby he meets, yadda, yadda, yadda. Other films portraying professional assassins, for instance, Max Von Sydow in "Three Days of the Condor", or the multitude of characters in the "Bourne Identity/Supremacy" series, William DeVane's outfit in "The Marathon Man", the assassin who targets John Voigt in "The Odessa File", and so forth. The film is laughingly poorly done in this regard. Believable tradecraft is totally lacking to support Cruise's character in a credible manner. If you have the time, see it if you don't, you haven't missed much.
"Collateral" is one of the best acton packed movie that I've ever seen. Tom, Jamie, and Jada all give Oscar worthy performances. Definitely, a classic movie.
