Overview

During World War II, many notable Hollywood directors did their part for the war effort by making films for the military, including John Ford, Frank Capra, and John Huston. The major cartoon studios joined in too, and ace Warner Bros. animator Chuck Jones went so far as to create a character, Private SNAFU, for a series of cartoons produced for and shown solely to American servicemen. The cartoons featuring the bumbling private were wildly popular with the boys overseas and featured saltier humor than was permitted in films for civilian audiences; "hell" and "damn" slipped into the dialogue on occasion, and scantily clad cheesecake girls were sometimes drawn into the action. This DVD features all 26 Private SNAFU shorts; while most were made by the Warner Bros. animation department, this collection also features three rare SNAFU cartoons made by the UPA and Harmon-Ising studios.
