The story concerns a popular urban teenager named Mary Elizabeth Cep Lindsay Lohan, who is convinced her real name is Lola. Unfortunately, her family moves from fashionable New York City to a small suburb in New Jersey. Disturbed by her environment, Lola is quick to wage war against the popular Carla Santini Megan Fox. She's also pursued by high school hunk Stu Wolff Adam Garcia, but chooses to focus her attention on winning back her title of Most Popular Girl in School. With the help of a frumpy drama teacher Carol Kane and shy new friend Ella Alison Pill, Lola creates a dramatic performance to earn her coveted high status.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
Lindsay Lohan is not a Mean Girl in this adaptation of Dyan Sheldon's young adult book favorite. But she is an unappealingly self-absorbed "drama queen" who must suffer the slings and arrows of moving from her beloved New York City to suburban New Jersey. Mary, who insists on being called Lola, considers herself "a flamingo in a flock of pigeons." For Lola, it's all about "fighting against ordinariness," "living in style," and landing the lead role in her high school play, a contemporary adaptation of Pygmalion. In fact, she is only barely more tolerable than her requisite high school nemesis, the beautiful, popular, and rich Carla Santini (Megan Fox), who also feels entitled to center stage and whose father is the lawyer for Lola's favorite rock band. The most sympathetic character is Ella (Alison Pill), Lola's misfit best friend, especially when Lola manipulates her into crashing a rock concert and after-party so that she can meet her singing idol. It is a tribute to Lohan's considerable charm and likability that viewers don't lose all patience with Lola, although it is fun to anticipate her comeuppance, however light it turns out to be. Confessions is also enlivened by the always reliable Carol Kane as Lola's high-strung drama teacher, a lively pop soundtrack (including the requisite Lohan track), and director Sara Sugarman's surprising surreal flourishes illuminating Lola's fanciful view of the world.
All Movie Guide
If Freaky Friday is the film that gave Lindsay Lohan a warm cinematic welcome, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen is the hasty follow-up, an unendurable vanity project that's as long as any 90-minute movie out there. Sara Sugarman's film aims for the tone, pastel design, and outrageous sartorial sense of Clueless, but its Disney pedigree, as well as the intrusion of a square Disney morality, prevents it from amassing the necessary irony. Wherever it needs to be brash, it's safe. What's left is a tedious tween comedy with precious few laughs or insights, and even less sense of how to appeal to its target audience. The film is modern enough to feature an iMac orchestra and a hip-hop staging of Pygmalion, but its characters' wants and needs are decidedly quaint. Not only are Lohan and her best friend hung up on the kind of glam rock band that teens haven't favored since the 1980s, but Lohan's excessive narration contains numerous allusions to unlikely works of literature. In vain, Sugarman resorts to cutaways and running the action in fast-motion to punch up Gail Parent's script, which includes such zingers as "Are you partially insane?" and "You're being accusatory!" But the film's most obvious deference to Lohan's budding superstardom, at the expense of humor, is that none of the times she breaks into song involve setting up a punch line -- they are presented merely as music videos. In the grand scheme of things, Confessions turns out to function as a rough draft for Mean Girls, the Lohan vehicle released only two months later, which comes a lot closer to being an effective satire of teen politics. Preferring Confessions would be...well, partially insane.

    STUPID

Okay, Lindsay's done better. If I could I would give this movie negative five stars. All that happens is a girl "Lola" gets everything that she wants. That's it. Yes, there are stupid complications in this movie, but in the end EVERYTHING is FIXED. that's not real life. How about buying something with more depth in it.

Save your stomach for the roller coasters!

Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen: Lets just get off with this to say its only 90 minutes long! After I watched it I just felt like I was left without something. I felt totally empty, and this movie did nothing except depict an overly dramatic girl living in a real-life fantasy! It is missing something something BIGTIME, and needs to save the cheesieness for Wisconsin. I might recommend a screening of this if perhaps you are UNDER 9 YEARS OLD! But just to keep it safe, save your stomach contents for the roller coasters!

    horrible...

if it was possible to give negative stars, i would give this movie -4 stars! The main character lies a lot and gets everything she wants, and she barely even talks to Sam and they kiss at the end! I mean, that doesn't make sense... Don't waste your time and money with this movie.

Good But Could Have Done Better!!!!!!!

Sure this movie wasn't the best in the world but i still liked and would see it again. The very first time i saw the movie i pretty much agreed with everyone else: i thought it sucked! Then i watched it again and i got hooked on it. Here's some advice: watch it a 2nd time and you'll see that it really is a pretty good movie and the songs were pretty cool too. Listen to me, watch it again, you'll like it better the 2nd time!!

it deserves less than a half of a half of a star....is it possible to give negative ratings??

this was quite possibly the worst movie that ever graced the planet. i would never ever see it ever agian. what the heck was lindsay lohan thinking when she agreed to make this. and if you watch it with captions the song on the train is worded: shake those coconuts coco girls until the milk comes out coco boys what is that supposed to mean. NEVER EVER EVER EVER waste even a millisecond of your life watching this movie.

    Great Movie!

I had to watch this movie with my nieces, I was dreading it, but to my surprise it is a fun movie! If you like singing and dancing and drama, it is fun for women of any age! The song in the movie is so catchy you will want to hear it over and over again! Great one for kids, mothers will love it too!

    Dissappointed...

I was dissappointed by this movie. The plot wasn't too great, and it was kinda childish. I expected better from Lindsay Lohan, but the singing and dancing was ok.

    Boooorrrrriiiinnngggg

I was disappointed. There was a teensy bit of romance and a lot of music and drama and stuff, but the plot wasn't that great. I thought the outfits were a little different but it just put me to sleeeeeepppp!

Too Much of a Drama queen?????

The previews and trailers of this movie are very good. They promote the viewing of this film highly (in my opinion). I was very excited to see this movie since I have been an actress in our school plays for many years. However, I was suprised at how slow moving this film was and how much of humor from the book (the movie is based from a book) was not shown. The characters in the movie seemed over-dramatic also, almost as if they were trying too hard to play their parts. The relationship between Lola and Sam was never really brought up either, which made the movie not as interesting as it could have been. To sum everything up, this was a bumpy movie. There were so many conflicts and the movie kept skipping from one to another and you never really understood what was happening. That is my opinion!!!!

All my life I have been told I over do things. I always wanted to find out what I was good at. This is about A girl who leaves what she knows and starts over somewhere else along the way she finds herself.
