Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Lewis Somoza Manalo
According to Cowboy Bebop, jet-propelled lawlessness rules the future. Without the aid of planet-hopping bounty hunters -- space cowboys, if you will -- there would be no place for justice in the universe. So Jet Black, bounty hunter and pilot of the spaceship Bebop, cruises the galaxy with his cool-as-ice partner, Spike Spiegel, chasing the cash and loving the danger. Add renegade bounty hunter Faye Valentine and hacking whiz Edward to the Bebop's motley crew, and the hunts grow crazier, pursuing space smugglers, interplanetary terrorists, and common terrestrial thugs -- all to a swinging jazz soundtrack! In addition to having some of the best-looking contemporary animation, the series embodies all that can be called "cool" in modern anime: Inspirations range from Star Wars action to Clint Eastwood's sneer to Bruce Lee's kick. And amid the high-flying, hard-hitting action is a great character drama, as the developing story line delves into the shady, often tragic histories of the entire Bebop crew. Directed by Shinichiro Watanabe with an amazing score by Yoko Kanno (Macross Plus), Cowboy Bebop provides a cerebral "ker-plunk" for the anime fan who wants something headier than Pokémon but as kinetic as a great bebop record. Included here are episodes 19-22: "Wild Horses," "Pierrot Le Fou," "Boogie-Woogie Feng-Shut," and "Cowboy Funk."
