Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Lewis Somoza Manalo
According to Cowboy Bebop, jet-propelled lawlessness rules the future. Without the aid of planet-hopping bounty hunters -- space cowboys, if you will -- there would be no place for justice in the universe. So Jet Black, bounty hunter and pilot of the spaceship Bebop, cruises the galaxy with his cool-as-ice partner, Spike Spiegel, chasing the cash and loving the danger. Add renegade bounty hunter Faye Valentine and hacking whiz Edward to the Bebop's motley crew, and the hunts grow crazier, pursuing space smugglers, interplanetary terrorists, and common terrestrial thugs -- all to a swinging jazz soundtrack! In addition to having some of the best-looking contemporary animation, the series embodies all that can be called "cool" in modern anime: Inspirations range from Star Wars action to Clint Eastwood's sneer to Bruce Lee's kick. And amid the high-flying, hard-hitting action is a great character drama, as the developing story line delves into the shady, often tragic histories of the entire Bebop crew. Directed by Shinichiro Watanabe with an amazing score by Yoko Kanno Macross Plus, Cowboy Bebop provides a cerebral "ker-plunk" for the anime fan who wants something headier than Pokémon but as kinetic as a great bebop record. The second Bebop DVD includes episodes 6-10: "Sympathy For The Devil," "Heavy Metal Queen," "Waltz For Venus," "Jamming With Edward," and "Ganymede Elegy."

    Anime Classic

This series may be one of the best in the world of Anime. It seemlessly pulls you into the world of the future by harkening back to the film noir music and style of the past. I was blown away by the first episode on this DVD, Sympathy for the Devil. In case you're wondering, you will have sympathy for him by the end of the show. Overall, I highly recommend not just this installment but the entire Cowboy Bebop series. It's a beautiful and haunting classic that appeals to all of the senses. If you get tired of the pulp shows, please give this a chance, it's beyond the pale.

    Ride 'em Cowboy!

Who would have thought that in so many years since ''Lupin III'', adult anime wasn't really dead? Nope, fans-older-than-15...rejoice, because Cowboy Bebop is a new kind of anime, but yet an old familiar one at that. Now, I am only 14, but I truely know good anime when I see it, and believe me, CB is it. CB is mature without being trashy and porno-ish. It has characters that are amazing, from old-fashioned, to laid-back, to complete femme fatales, who are old enough to know just about everything. Sure, kids can watch it, but adults will appreciate it more because of the fact that it is aimed towards them. With outstanding music, great dialoge and characters, and a nice western/classy jazz feel to it, Cowboy Bebop will leave you either dumbfounded in your chair with drool hanging out of your mouth, or have you screaming for more. And hey, take it from a cowgirl herself, that's a REALLY good sign. See you Space Cowboy.
