Picking up where the original Cracker left off in October 1996 on Britain's ITV, A New Terror finds Fitz, after living in Australia for a decade, returning to England for his daughter's wedding. His homeland has changed profoundly in the wake of September 11th, the Afghanistan and Iraq invasions, and -- most immediately -- the July 7, 2005, terrorist bombings in London. Against the wishes of his family, Fitz joins the police in hunting for a murderer who has no apparent motive. A New Terror -- broadcast as with the episode title "Nine Eleven" in the U.K. on October 1, 2006 -- deftly depicts a world held hostage to violence, both personal and political. Violence blares from omnipresent TV screens, crops up in casual conversations, and casts its shadow on everyday life. As always, Fitz's insights into this world might edify you or infuriate you, but they will never fail to fascinate.     I Love this and own the entire series.

    This series is my favorite and I own the entire set. This one I purchased to give as a gift to someone who enjoys the same type of stuff I do.

    We waited all these years for this??

    The long awaited "new episode" of "Cracker" finally came to TV after writer Jimmy McGovern said he would only resurrect Dr. Fitzgerald if he could find a story compelling enough to tell. He should have waited a bit longer. Robbie Coltrane's "Cracker" was a brilliant series anchored by his mesmerizing performance. The best stories from that series had two to three episodes in which to play out, and they balanced Fitz's tumultuous homelife and the case he was investigating. In "A New Terror" (or "9/11" or whatever it is called), we have an abbreviated story, a killer we don't know much about and a lack of the series' core characters. Plus, to an American (even a liberal like myself) Fitz's America-bashing gets a little old. What makes this worth a rental is to see Coltrane as Fitz one last time. He's an old pro, doing it like no one else can. Too bad they couldn't have found a better coda to this character.
