Crossroads casts Spears as Lucy, the shy valedictorian of her high school graduating class. On the night of their prom, Lucy and her once-close childhood friends -- the prim and proper Kit (Zoe Saldana) and the tomboyish, five-months-pregnant Mimi (Taryn Manning) -- reunite to dig up a time capsule they buried together as little girls. Mimi's about to make good on her childhood dreams; she's leaving their small Southern town for hopes of fame and fortune in Los Angeles. Though Lucy and Kit are reluctant to join her, they decide to tag along at the last minute, agreeing to be chauffeured by Mimi's just-out-of-jail friend, Ben (Anson Mount). As they trek across the country, plagued by car problems, unsanitary motels, and petty bickering, the three friends reveal meaningful secrets to each other, and Lucy begins to realize that the handsome, reticent Ben might just be the guy for her.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Gregory Baird
Pop star Britney Spears sings and dances her way across America in her screen debut -- a coming-of-age drama designed as a showcase for the teen idol, whose famous midriff appears early and often. Directed by Tamra Davis Gun Crazy, Crossroads stars Spears as a high school senior from Georgia who learns about life on a road trip west with her two best childhood girlfriends Zoë Saldana and Taryn Manning. Along the way, she finds romance with the hunky ex-con Anson Mount who acts as the girls’ chauffer, raising the possibility that our perky heroine might lose her much-vaunted virginity. While Crossroads aspires to moments of straight-faced drama amid typical teen-comedy hijinks, it does provide its star with ample opportunities to appear in her underwear once while dancing and lip-syncing to Madonna, no less!. Of course, Spears also does plenty of her own singing -- in one scene she lays waste to the competition in a karaoke bar contest, and later she triumphs at a Hollywood talent show. Crossroads is a Spears vehicle all the way -- sexy in a PG-13 sort of way and as streamlined as the vintage Buick convertible the girls travel across country in. Credit the talents of Saldana, Manning, and Mount, though, for helping to obscure this machine's various moving parts. They provide excellent support; and the catfights, sisterly bonding, and lustful moments that occur during the trip are convincing and effective. Add some big-sky scenery, and the result is a charming road film that's sure to please diehard Spears fans and perhaps even win her a few new ones.
Entertainment Weekly - Lisa Schwarzbaum
Britney has been delivered to the big screen safe and sound, the way we like our 20-year-old superstar girls to travel on the fame freeway.
Hollywood Reporter - David Hunter
Davis directs the low-budget production with economy and a lack of surface flashiness that is pleasingly unpretentious.

UMM... Is 2 stars like too much for this film?

I absolutely hated this movie! It was the most annoying thing I have ever seen! I think Britney Spears is the prettiest thing in the world and she can dance too! But when it comes to singing OR acting, she's gotta go! This movie was so horribly written, directed and acted! The only person who I didn't mind looking at was the guy who went on the trip with them! Oh and what a stupid concept: If you really hate someone, you don't actually go on a trip with them!!!!!!

    Crossroads was good...

I thought it was a fun Movie and I liked it. It had me cryin', laughin', it was great! However the storyline was kinda dumb, the whole friendship thing they had going on didn't seem real. But overall coming from someone who isnt really a fan of Brit, I thought she did a good job for her first movie. Go watch it, you'll enjoy it!

    WHERE ARE THE SEMI-STARS???...lol

HAHAHA¿is this a joke or something? It is obvious that those who have given the 5 stars are teenagers who don¿t have a clue of what a genuine film is all about. This movie was truly something horrible. The storyline was extremely awful and the acting was excruciating. Seriously people aside from the fact that Miss. Spears should stick to her singing, which by the way is something I¿m not very fond of since Britney possesses absolutely no vocal talents and only gets by with her looks but that¿s beside the point of how simply pathetic this motion picture is, this film is truly something you should avoid at ¿The Wiz¿ or wherever it is that you people by your movies. Britney Spears¿ debut is something she will categorically have a heart attack laughing over when she is much older because it is beyond doubt something she should be ashamed of. The whole pregnancy issue throughout the movie and the revelation of who the father is, is hilarious if I should say myself¿the fact that mimi was the one who wanted to be a singer and all of a sudden Miss. Spears gets the lead is somewhat annoying and also how they all go on a journey with a stranger who they suspect is a criminal¿and Britney¿s ¿Crying¿ scene¿I mean its simply too much for me¿lol. Britney should undeniably contact singer/ACTRESS Mandy Moore for some acting coaching for she truly was magnificent in ¿A Walk To Remember¿ which is the kind of film that should be classified as ¿unique¿ unlike this shaggy dog story of a film. Anyways if you do get a hold of this thing, which shouldn¿t at all be referred to as a movie, do the world and humans everywhere a big fat favor¿BURN IT! Unless you accomplish this atrocious act of obtaining this joke of a film through BlockBuster, think about it before you do for you might later on find yourself in a bit of a predicament when you do have to return it. And again I ask¿Where are the semi-stars???

    Surprised

I like Britney and all-but I didn't think she was going to be able to act-but she did a good job. The movie targets it's crowd- its a teenager movie-you can't expect much from it. But it was a cute movie. A cute movie to see with your girls.

    crossroads was a terrible movie

I hated this movie. I couldn't even watch it it was so boring. Briteny sang to much amd there was no real point to it besides them going to California with a guy they don't know. I also think Briteny didn't do that great of acting in it. But that's just my opinion.

    hahahahahahha!

let me just say that this must be one of the most amusing teen flicks i have ever come across. honestly, what could possibly be more hilarious than britney's romantic interest flouncing across the sand on the side of the road, all the while spewing angrily, ''Da! Da!'' i'm laughing just thinking about it. and the part where he stuck out his belly as they were having a ''romantic/sexual'' moment? pure genious. whoever came up with the idea for this movie needs a big pat on the back. i've never laughed harder.

What's Everyone's Probelm With This Movie?

I went and saw this movie in the theatre with a bunch of my gal pals and we loved it. It deals with real teenage issues and the plot is rather sweet. I think that everyone should just give Britney Spears a chance; she's not all that bad. Sure she may wear some skimpy clothes at times but so does every other girl in show business. If you haven't seen this movie yet don't listen to all the negative reviews it is a cute, fun, and upbeat film everyone must see it.

    Give Britney a break!

I wish people would stop saying Britney is a bad actress. In the movie Crosroads she proves acting is just one of her many talents. Crossroads has everything a good movie needs singing, dancing, fab acters and a lot of laughs. I highly recomend this movie to everyone.
