Overview

The French electronica duo Daft Punk has issued an excellent disc for their fans with this release. In addition to the videos for "Da Funk," "Around the World," "Burnin," and "Revolution 909," the disc offers making of featurettes for each of the videos, and a live rendition of "Rollin' & Scratchin." The DVD contains a standard full-frame transfer. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Stereo. Subtitles are accessible in both of those languages as well. Supplemental materials include storyboards, and the ability to choose from nine different camera angles during the performance of "Rollin' & Scratchin." This is a great disc for fans of the band.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Colin Helms
House music is often accused of being cold and inhuman, a form so preoccupied with the pursuit of the perfect beat that it fails to connect with anything above the knees. The wriggling techno-funk concocted by the French duo Daft Punk defiantly shatters that stereotype, revealing a playful sense of humor and warmth beneath its dense grooves. It's no surprise then that the five Daft music videos collected on D.A.F.T.: A Story About Dogs, Androids, Firemen, and Tomatoes would take a similarly irreverent -- and in some cases, convention-breaking -- approach. The DVD's pièce de resistance is surely Gallic director Michel Gondry's "Around the World," an ingeniously choreographed dance number whose hypnotic, alien pull perfectly syncs up with that of the accompanying sounds. The inspiration behind this and the DVD's four other clips (including Spike Jonze's bizarro mini-film about Charles The Dog Boy that doubles as the video for "Da Funk") are detailed through behind-the-scenes documentaries, directors' commentaries -- Jonze's being especially goofy -- and storyboards. The disc's flip side even includes a live performance video shot in Los Angeles that offers up nine different camera angles from which to choose, effectively allowing the viewer to create his or her own beguiling Daft video.
