Overview

After witnessing the brutal murder of his powerful father King Solomon of the Netherlands, a young heir to the throne begins preparation for his ultimate revenge in director Uli Edel's medivel tale of might and magic. An allied royal court has granted refuge to young Siegfried following the tragic death of his father, and in the following years Siegfried trains to become a formidable warrior as his magical mother Hjordis watches over him with a loving eye. When Siegfried acquires a magical sword said to have been forged from a fallen star, he sets out to slay the fearsome dragon Fafnir and lay claim to the gold that the horrid beast had stolen from the mythical Nibelungs. His victory over the dragon affording him the opportunity to bathe in its blood and achieve invincibility, Siegfried's glory is quickly tarnished when the Nibelungs reappear and demand the return of their treasure. Though Siegfried eventually agrees to bestow the Nibelungs the majority of the treasure, his unwise decision to retain the cursed ring that forms the very core of the valuable booty ensures that he will never experience true love for as long as it remains in his possession.

    Excellent entertainment

This movie is a departure from the written sagas but is excellent &quot stand alone&quot entertainment that might inspire one to read the Nibellungenleid Saga and others like the Song of Roland, The Iliand, The Oddyssey, and others. This film is not a documentary on the Sagas but is certainly recognizable to any and all that have read them. To understand the strength of Samon's hair, the mortal weakness of Achilles heel, the helmet of invisibility worn by Hades, and the cloak of invisibility prevalent in the early sagas increases the level of entertainment one gets from this film. It is outstanding. I highly recommend it. Do not miss it.

    Yes! A real Nordic Saga

For those of you familiar with Norse tales this one fits the bill to a tee. No sappy happy in this story, lots of sneakiness, greed, Loki must be working overtime in the background. I have no idea if this is supposed to be based on a story from Norse myth or if some ingenous writer in the 21st century made it all up, but it works! I won't give the twists and ending away by going into detail, but I will say I thought they did a bang up job of portraying the general feel of Norse tales with all the cultural differences intact.

    Not bad

Well, I didnt expect much from this kind of movie. It felt cheap and had no depth. Now if Peter Jackson did it, we could be looking at a good movie. Overall, I feel it didnt live up the old Nordic myth.

    PRETTY GOOD ACTUALLY

THIS WAS A PRETTY GOOD MOVIE. IT WAS VERY FUNNY, DRAMATIC, AND EPIC IN DETAIL. IT'S A GREAT ACTION/ADVENTURE FILM THAT PLAYS OFF MORE OF A FANTASY SHAKESPEARE STYLE, SO LORD OF THE RING FANS DON'T GET ANY ASSUMPTIONS. THIS IS A COMPLETLY DIFFERENT MOVIE THAN THOSE FILMS. IT HAS A GREAT CAST AND INTERESTING STORYLINE. I DEFINITE BUY FOR ANYONE WHO LIKES DRAMAS OR NORDIC TALES. FOR ANY ROMANTICS, THIS TALE DOES HAVE SOME MESSED UP BACKSTABBING AND BETRAYAL.
